Blower Motor Resistor
Thursday, January 12, 2006 6:55 PM
I have a 2000 Sunfire, and I think that my resistor has gone bad- instead of 4 speeds, I have 2 - very slow and very fast. I have looked around, but can't find how to change the resistor on the 2000 - does anyone know?

Thanks,

Brian

This is a fairly common problem on all types of GM vehicles. Unless you are physically limber and have the proper tools, you will end up frustrated and sore if you try to replace the resistor yourself. There is plenty of commentary on this issue right here on the jBody forum.

I've looked at the sticky - would this apply for the 2000? I know that GM made some changes to some items from the 1999 (a friend of mine has the '99) and I just wanted to make sure before I tear everything apart!

Thanks!

very slow and very fast....i duno about your resistor then...lets say its your medium high resistor went then only high would work bc the first 3 speeds are wired in series and the high speed is direct path to ground. i'd have to see a wire diagram. ill see if i can grab one at school and take a look at it.

It could be just very fast is working - I noticed when it is on low I don't realy get anything out of it, and what I do is speed-dependant - the faster I go, the more that comes out. My wife had a 99 Malibu that had a similar issue - we changed the resistor pack in hers 3 times! I duid some more searching and found a thread that was for an '03 - it was the same as the one for a pre-2000 so I guess they didnt change much! I think changing this is going to be my main project for the weekend - judging by what I have read here the bolts can be a pain but I can be persistent if I have to be!!

Thanks for everyone's help! If it doesn't work, I'll be back!!

Well, I jsut finished - got the new resistor from the local GM dealer, spent about 45 minutes doing the job and it works like a charm! What a PITA trying to get to it though!! I am 6'5" and trying to contort myself to get underneath the dash is painful!

Thanks for the help everyone!
