Replacing Water Pump
Thursday, January 12, 2006 7:11 PM
My 99 Z24 has about 101,000 miles on it and the water pump went out. I want to know if anyone has detailed instructions on how to change it or if anybody knows about how much it is to have a shop do it. I was told that this can be a 6-10 hour job and i dont really feel like paying a shop to do the water pump. If you have the instructions, i would appreciate if you could e-mail them to me: babyblue_05_hottie@hotmail.com
thanks

Surely God it wouldn't take 6-10 hours to do... Hmm.. All I can think of is ask one of the techs here or buy a break-down manual from autozone.. I think mine explains how to do it

Depends on the shop... but most are between $800 and $1300 to replace the water pump.

It's not that difficult

Remove the timing assembly and unbolt the waterpump. Install the new one...

But to get there... you have to remove the crank belt, the pulley, the exhaust manifold (for ease of access), the upper engine mount, the whole timing assembly... it's a lot of work.

i'd do voltage drop tests across the conectors and such bc theres a reason that it went on you..but still possibility just bc its old. but to be safe i'd have ur connections checked out bc you could have resistance with that circuit which caused your pump to work harder and overwork the pump to its death.

I paid a dealer $1000 to replace my pump. And I am kinda glad I did, because I had to take it back twice after that to have it replaced AGAIN under warranty... So about $333 per install... lol
