what is this thing?

might be stupid, and may have been asked before, but what the hell is this ?
its somekind of a filler cap that is attached to the airbox......
i have an 02 manual, so i don't believe its somekind of tranny fluid, unless i'm way off, and underestimated GM's way of building a manual tranny.

Could it be somekind of clutch fluid?

I also can't believe i never noticed what it was, and i've had the car for about a year.......

sorry for being stupid...............

You got a 5-speed? THat's the clutch reserve.

yes, if you'll notice it says "fill with DOT 3 brake fluid" it is your clutch master cylinder

To take the airbox out:
1. take the screws out of the drivers headlight, disconnect and remove.
2. Take the lower wheelwell panel out, there's several small bolts and some of the
pushin type fasteners. (look in front of the tire, it's the plastic part that goes under the nose)
3. The windshield washer jug is attached to the lower airbox, remove both together, from under the nose, there's a bolt that attaches them together. Remove it and they pop apart. (washer has wire plug, unplug. also hose - plug or you'll get a face full of fluid)
4. In a 5sp, you must do something with the clutch master cyl resivoir. Turbo Tech Racing has a bracket that attaches to a airbox mount or fab a small "L" bracket.
5. re-install above parts / new air system.
Hope this helps.

Unless you're adding a cold air intake there's really no need to take out the lower airbox. I have a shortram and all I took out was the upper box that holds the filter. All I did was loosen the fuse box remove the intake tube and pull the air box loose from its mounts. Easy. As far as the clutch reserve, I had mine just hang there by the clip next to the master cylinder, but now it's attached to the strut tower. Some mount it to the firewall, some place, AEM I think, makes a mount that attaches to the rear grommet hole for the stock intake.
