I'm looking for a new engine for my '97. I've pretty much decided I'm going to buy a remanufactured engine rather than getting mine rebuilt because by the time I take my engine out, send it out to have it rebuilt, the down time, all of that, it's just more economical to have one shipped to my house. I figure I can cut my down time from a week or more to a weekend at most. So I've went to a few different places, Autozone, Napa, that sort of thing, and I've looked online as well. The engines all seem to have the same parts as far as bearings and rods and such, basically OE or better, but some of them have one confusing detail. The term "enhanced" seems to come up pretty frequently, and nobody has been able to tell me what it means. One guy said "It has a different cam with hydraulic roller lifters". Uh, last I checked, that's what my engine already has, so I don't accept that answer. Others say compression is higher, bigger bore, stuff like that. If that's the case, why does the "enhanced" engine cost the same as the others?

Unless they specify a different cam or other parts, I'd say it's just a stock engine. maybe it's just nice and clean? Hard to say.
If it's the same price as a stock motor, then I'll bet you anything it's just a stock motor.
The enhanced engines specify a roller cam, but again. the LN2 already HAS a roller cam. They wouldn't have a different cam profile, would they?

"Enhanced Engines" ???
The main reason for rebuilding an engine (with a
cast iron block) cast iron seasons and stays more
stable if it has been subjected to high heat (like in
previous use.)
And, since 1997, the push rod engine has been
enhanced with roller rockers.
Unless you have a precision, long-time experienced
rebuilder, GM will probably make you a better replacement.
So it comes with roller rockers. Interesting. Wonder if they're 1.5 or 1.6.
