Headgasket Questions

For my winter beater/daily driver I have a 1987 cavi. with 2.0 & auto trans. And my headgasket just blew earlier today.

I only paid $200.00 for the car last year and i have deff. got my moneys worth out of it.
everything else on the car still works great just the headgasket is bad.

should i just go ahead and buy a new top end gasket kit and replace the headgasket and have the head re-surfaced. or should i just junk the car and go find another beater?
the only thing wrong is the headgasket & its rusty.
it has all new exhaust, brakes, complete suspension, and starter, alternator & battery. the people i bought it from supplied me with all the receipts(all done at the dealer with new oem parts.) it was a lil old lady's car. oh yeah it got good gas mileage.
the car is pretty rusty. ( i had posted pics before )

i have replaced headgaskets on a bunch of small block chevys and other various V-8s but i have never done one on a motor like my 2.0....

how hard of a job is it going to be, and is there anything i need to keep an eye out for also what is the best gasket to get? ive always used fel-pro gaskets but dont know if there is a better gasket avail for my application.

well thanks for any info given.

i just want to put my cavfire back in storage before the weather get @!#$ty.

its not too hard a job, i rebuilt the top end on my 2.2 in a couple days.. i coulda been done sooner but i had to wait for the head to get back from the machine shop...had it milled 30 thousandths, valve job, new valve seals and everything... if you get a haynes or chiltons manual its pretty easy with a little common sense and some basic tools... good luck man...

Well i decided to go ahead and replace it... im going to start on it tonight maybe but looks like saturday and or sunday will be the day that i tackle it.

Ive been spraying the exaust manifold bolts with "pb blaster" & wd-40 a few times a day and pounding on the manifold and bolts since sunday afternoon...
hopefuly it wont be a nightmare tring to get the manifold off... if so i will have to take the torch to it. i just dont want those damn manifold bolts snapping off in the head! lol

well i will post how it goes.......
