ok, three days ago i go out to start my car and let it warm up like usual. welll, as i sat in the house, after about 5 min. i hear the exhaust start sputtering. So i go out and check it out and when i give it gas the car sputters really bad then when i let off it acts like it wants to die. so i change the plugs wires and fuel filter, nothing changed. i take it to a shop and on the way my girl was following me and it wouldnt harly make it up the mountian she said it started shooting flames out the exhaust. well right then i knew tha converter was gone. so it was replaced along with the ignition thing that the plug boots attach too just incase of hairline cracks. Nothing has changed and you can smell fuel. it doesnt wanna pull out hardly and their isnt a check engine light on and compression was checked and is fine. sounds liek it jumped time or something. its a 95 2.3liter auto. with a cone filter and muffler. other than that its stock. any ideas are welcome , please !!!!!!!!!!!
Bad injector. prob stuck open and spraying fuel all the time.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Try the Thorttle Position Sensor. My Grand am acted just about the same way when my TPS went bad.
take out the injectors and prime the fuel system (ignition to on, no engine start) and see if one is spraying fuel. If it is then there is your problem. You could also check the ohms across them and see if they are out of spec, although you will have to look up spec. I dont know them for these cars. If they check out fine, then start looking at the sensors. Take the volt reading off the TPS. I think it should be aroudn .46 at idle. Once again look it up. I work on a lot of different cars and dont memorize specs.

^^^^^^ If all those check out, your computer could have taken a dump. Throw another one in (or borrow one from someone) and run it. Happened to my cav when I first got it.
check the sensors above, along with the O2, MAP, CLT, and IAT. All of those sensors govern the amount of fuel going into the engine.

Change your o2 sensor.

thanksalot guys. im going to try and buy the injectors first. has anyone used the ones from nopi.com?
plus wouldnt the other sensors if one went bad, set a CEL?
make Sure you hooked the plug wires up correctly. If you switch 2 of them it will probley shoot fire because one cyl will be on exuast and had not fired yet. This would kill 2 cyl. I know you said it was doing this before you changed them but just double check! I had made a Grand am GTP shoot fire like this.. pretty neat.
Speed costs... How fast ya wanna go??

ok guys, i put the injectors in and although the seals on one of the old ones was tore , the new ones i was carefull when i put them in however nothing has changed except u cant smell feul now Its still the exact same prob. sounds like i have a dead cylinder. i tried unplugging the sensor that is mounted on the intake manifold while the car was running nad it started really acting up and set a code , so i cut it off reset the computer and replugged the sensor back in and the code was gone but the engine went back to acting like it was originally so im thinking that sensor is ok. the plug boots arent likely to be backwards cuz the jsut connect to that module coil pack thing under the idi cover. its really puzzeling me cuz its not setting any codes or smoking , it jsut wont idle right expecially when its put into gear or reved. i really love this car and im thinkin its gotta be something simple , should i jsut get rid of it or wait it out and continue working on it. i mean i got my fiance's trick sunfire(gotta love a jbody chick lol)
common guys pleaseeeeeeee hhheeellllpppppppp!!!!
Check the vacuum lines from the TB. I had one on my 98 Z bad. Didn't look like it until I started checking them and it fell apart in my hand. It's a simple place to start.

Well, here is an odd shot for ya, but it has worked for me in the past. Get your alternator tested. I had the same prob in my grand am and the alt was the actual prob.

Ok guys i figured id update ya on where the car is , i got it pretty much narrowed down to one of the center cylinders being down. im going to check the plug boots again tomorrow and make sure the lil spring in it is ok and not broken. and make sure i didnt break a plug when putting it in. i got to thinkin could maybe one of the rocker arms fallin off or broke. this would make the valve stay shut and the compression ok and still make the cylinder be down, am i right? and if it was a blown head gasket wouldnt there be a loss of coolant or wouldnt that affect the copmpression. ok, so to date the compression is equal on all cylinders at bout 160, the injectors are all new and working, the ignition module thing is new and i still got a down cylinder with no rattles or differnt noises commin from the engine
