Engine light after CAI install
Saturday, January 07, 2006 6:08 PM
Ok guys,
I got my short throw and my AEM intake on today, no problems with install. I left my friends garage and drove home (7 miles maybe) and no engine lights, nothing. I got home, parked my car and went inside. I left to go to my GF's house and my engine light came on. I have the sensor in there right and everything is hooked up correctly. What could be causing this? What do I need to do to get rid of it?

Also, my fan comes on when the car is NOT running hot. Tomorrow, I was going to check coolant level, and disconnect battery for 20 minutes or so and hook it back up- take it for a drive and see if that fixes problem? Will this fix it? give the ECU time to adapt?

Thanks,
Chris Osborn

Yea man,

Its the only plug that goes into the intake right? besides the oil leak? Yea, I have them plugged in right. wouldn't the light come on right away if it wasn't plugged in right? i have it as for as it will go, but I can get it further i think.

the other thing that is throwin me off man is the fan comin on when the car us not even runnin hot

what is that about?

my Cel doesn't come on right away when I forget to plug the IAT sensor back in but I'm not sure what the problem could be now,

where is the temp guage sitting when the fan comes on??

my fan kicks in about halfway up the temp guage

i know i hate to say this but its the easiest thing.. take it to auto zone and see what code is coming up to make the cel come on an dgo from there, it may not have anything to do with your intake. it may just be a coincidence that it came on at that time. also take the iat sensor out and check it. there may be some trash in it or something...

i dont know anything about sensors or anything so this might not be valid...but when i put my injen intake on my last cav..it blew a sensor which made that engine light come on and made the car idol rough at start up.

Okay first off like people alwayssay get the @!#$ code. Is it really that hard to remember to get the code before posting. There are thousands of the reasons the CEL can come on for, the new Mercerdes Benz has over 5000 reasons on its newer cars.

Secondly if it wasnt on before you installed this power god but is on after the install, maybe just maybe it has something to do with this power god you installed.

Finally your fan coming on when your car isnt hot yet is another reason for the CEL.

Usually though the fan comes on when the car has hit slighty above operating temp.
When are your gauge does the fan come on?

Fan comes on about half way on the temp gauge... its normal temp, right?

Ok, I unhooked the battery for an hour, pushed in the brake pedal to release current and still get the engine light, but only after I drive it for a while. I started the car and let it stand for 10 minutes at idle, and no light. I drive it for 5 minutes and the light comes back on. I don't notice a hard idle, or anything--- but back to the fan--- the fan comes on when the temp gauge is 1/4 of the way up-- and this was at idle.

Thanks,
Chris

Alright Chris I'll help you a littel bit.

First off it is untrue completely that removing the battery cable will reset the CEL, it will reset the computer the non-volitle memory ONLY!. It will also shut off the light, but the code is still stored. A scan tool, or fixing the prolem and the computer seeing the problem fixed are the only ways the CEL will go off.
Also I really have no clue what you mean hitting the brake pedal releasing current. Chris whoever told you that had no clue what they were talking about.

It does sound like the fan is coming on to soon. This can be caused by the ECT being faulty. If the ECT says the car is hotter than it is, the fan will come on sooner because of the sensor reading incorrectly.

Seriously though get the code so we can help you out.
