i keep getting this code and reseting it i was wondering if anyone knows the correct fix. do i need a new egr valve or just a sensor ect? thanx
That's a 'could be' on the new EGR. The feedback signal to the PCM isn't what it wants to see. Could be a lota carbon crap not letting the pintle seat back home. New EGR is a bit pricey, but couldn't be easier to replace. If you have over 100K miles on the clock, it'd be a wise investment.
so do u think a egr would fix th CEL or is it anything more complex where is the actual sensor ect?
Yeah, the CEL most often tripped by an emissions problem and the EGR valve is an emissions device. On the 2.2, it's a back-out of two bolts and unplug a wire clip. Grab yourself a Chilton's manual for the locale of the valve on the 2.3/2.4 engine. A worthwhile investment as well. Chilton's only 'weakness' is not too comprehensive on interior work on trim and dash.
You can test EGR valves you know pretty easily.
Car running, youn grab the underside of the valve and push the thing upwards so it closes the valve, does the car stall or not? You want it to stall by the way.

so if its the not the egr then what else would it be what exactly is the "pintle position sensor"
i dont see anywhere you can "push up" on it is this for 2.4 also. I have a 2.4
Unbolt the 2-10mm holding the EGR valve on.... Its to the right of the throttle body.
Clean the carbon out of it- and bolt it back up... That will probably fix it.
ill try that today. thanx
is it safe to use maybe brake cleaner or something in the egr valve some kind of cleaning solution?
