I have a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, 2.2L, 5 speed, I want to know if I have an Ecotec, i'm not exactly sure, I did some research and read a few things like, "all 03 - 05 have Ecotec's and some 02's have Ecotec's", and "some don't have the Ecotec" it's just pissing me off and I need to know, I feel dumb for not knowing, also, on Wikipedia, it says the L61 DOHC and L42 DOHC, are both Ecotec motors, i'm not exactly sure since I read a few different responses. would appreciate some help on figuring out what motor I have.
Pop the hood... it should say ecotec right on the motor.
That being said, 03 will be an eco unless somebody swapped in a different motor.
It doesn't say Ecotec anywhere. Nothing about it, was wondering if they have some other differences from base.
The ONLY Engine from the Factory is the 2.2 Eco in an 03-05. Period.
It could hve been replaced by now, it is 13years old.
Post your last 8 of your VIN and I can run the Original Sticker if you want.
Last 8 digits are 37295103
It doesn't have the 2.2 Ecotec sticker on the valve cover though.
Someone may have changed the cover and not put a new sticker on it. If it looks like the picture of an Ecotec posted above, it is an Ecotec. If you want the sticker you can buy one on ebay.

It looks exactly like the top pic.
