sorry to the mods if this is in the wrong section or not allowed. but i just read someones post about their local pick and pull .. and had an idea. alot of us live near salvage yards like PIP. but alot of time the parts we need are in other PIPs even out of state. what if we had some kind of forum with info or Wanted part section? i know we have a classified ad but this would extend it even more.
this would help out alot of us. in my case, my local pick n pull hardly ever has a convertible that i can pull frame parts i need from.
again sorry to the mods if this is frowned upon, its just an idea.

searchable database of salvage yards nation wide, and a lot of places will ship stuff if you need them to. i've gotten a few parts this way without any problems.
very true .. but even they cant get you the smaller parts that are hard to find. and having a direct person to deal with who also happens to know what your looking for to the exact spec is also nice. not to mention even way cheaper then what car-parts can find
^^^^ i totally agree and under the right conditions i would be willing to visit my local PIP for parts and ship them.
the right conditions being i would check the posts on the board, go to my PIP look for the parts, if i find them come back with price incl. shipping. then when i have the money in hand i can go and get the part.
now the money in hand part would only apply if the part would cause me undue harsdship due to price i.e. i can afford to go look for and buy an engine from a yard and ship it. if the price for the part is reasonably cheap to purchase and ship i could do this prior to payment otherwise i would need the money paypaled first.

i like this idea. i try to go to the junkyard about once a week. sometimes i find good stuff. today i found three quad 4 valve covers. those are usually gone within a day or two. i got three today. but yeah, i agree we should have a place where we could ask a member in a different state if they could pull something for us.
so the idea here is to have a forum to low ball people on here to go get you parts instead of using car-part?
typical JBO, to cheap to use car-part, so lets create a forum where we can all low-ball the next guy because we are too cheap to pay for what the part is worth.

I thought the idea was for people to post up what they need and other people that go to junkyards semi-regularly would check for the stuff and relay prices and shipping if they find it. Seems reasonable enough, especially for thrify users without a good selection in their local yards.
who said any thing about low balling ... its exactly what the guy said above... you would pay what the guy paid to get the part for you plus shipping .. if not more for his work . not only does this help the person who needs a part.. it can also be beneficial for the other person as well.. car-parts deals with yards that are not self service and are often very close to what a used part would cost new at a dealer.

i saw two listings for a headlight wiring harness (one was only $150 not $225). any salvage yard in america has a headlight wiring harness for a '99 cavalier. i guarantee you i can call any number of yards and have them mail me one for $30 or less. that's about what you'd expect for having someone on the .org run to a yard and get it for you. seriously, this example has no merit.
i still think AZ24Ncav has a great idea.

It's not so much the cost of a part, it's finding the actual part. It took me months to find a 95-99 Z dimmer but if I had posted up I needed it, somebody's bound to have seen one and I would've paid cost + shipping to get it.
It's also not members running to yards to get what people need. A lot of members, like myself, like to check local yards(I've got 3 I go to semi-regularly) for anything interesting and it's not hard to remember somebody wanting a GM strut bar and relaying a price to them. The only problem would be people jacking prices up to make a buck but then it's really up to the ones grabbing stuff from the yards.
i would gladly do this for people having trouble finding a part and i would not try to make any profit on it, i personally would do it to further the cause and to open lines of communication if i should ever need anything in the future.

What about what the junkyard BUYS the entire car for. i was looking for an exhaust for my old cavy and they wanted $250 for it. i said well i can get a custom one done for a little more ( stainless)
a week later i went to a local auction, the same junkyard guy bought 6 cars for $75 each. Now how is that fair?
