I have found a 96 Sunfire shell and all it needs is a motor. My GF has a 98 Cavalier which is having electrical problems and it would be cheeper for us to just put her motor into the sunfire as i have friends with lifts and such. Question is, would the 98 2.2 fit into the 96 sunfire and bolt in/plug into ECU fine and drive away? I was told the 96 2.2's are different then the 98 2.2s

You need to swap the trans and ecm over also...

i dont see why it wouldnt be swappable... but i know the 98+ 2.2 won't work in a second gen because the Intake Manifold doesnt clear the steering rack.... but the third gen has a differently setup engine bay from the second gen

Yeah the 2.2 from 96 is different from 98 but you will need to swap the ecm and tranny
