i was just wondering if they are the same engine. also im wondering if there different what is the same that i could use?

Thats weird, my gf just bought an '06 ION2 yesterday, and i was curious about the same thing.

Relatively yes they are the same, as long as it is an 05. I believe the 06's have the different reluctor ring even in the 2.2 (L61), I know all of the 2.4 (LE5) ecotecs are a 56x reluctor ring which means that the engine itself is not compatible w/ a cavalier unless you do some major "brain" work on the car. There are quite a few parts off the 05 you would be able to use though, just about any sensor should be useable, along w/ the intake/exhaust manifolds. Not to sure beyond that.

actaully the intake box on the ions is on the left side of the engine if your facing the rear of the car standing in front. the cavys are on the right side thats one main thing i noticed was different. idk if that was every year but it was on the 03 and 04's not sure after that
