OK heres the deal in a nutshell.
Normally i keep any car i own, but i am now toying with the idea of selling the cavalier. I already know the KBB is around 2 grand with the mileage it currently has (160,000 miles), but a great majority of that was driving from Towson MD back home to DC / VA which is roughly about 1.5 hours away. 168 (home) or 176 (high school friends in VA) miles round trip. so going down there atleast 2-3 times a week, racks up over time. i'm planning to set the car out at my roomates house in westminster md since theres a larger pop of peeps that buy higher mileage cars...
but heres the thing... granted it has legit higher highway miles, would i factor in the transmission rebuild? not even from a performance POV, but on the fact that a new transmission was installed (one that doesnt have 160,000).
also any suggestions on the asking price? KBB registered at a bit over 2 grand. Shifted's Buying Guide above suggests 1000 over to start at. i kinda feel like a tofu a**bag for asking for near 3500 (1000$ over) for a base model car.
just need some suggestions on what YOU ALL feel a base 99, de modded, with a sunroof should go for, realistically. my thoughts were 1200-1800, i may be off some if there are some factors that i am overlooking. like said never sold a car before.
kbb puts my base 99 cavalier at just under $3k with 180k miles on it here in WI. I say put it for roughly $500 over the price you'd like to get for it and then just put OBO. then even if someone sees it the pricetag doesn't necessarily drive them away.

cool deal, thanx for the advice, brah!
Jason's right. It really depends on how long you want to sit on the car. Keep in mind, a lot of people use KBB, NADA, Edmunds, and the local market to determine what a car is "worth". Don't sell yourself short by basing your selling price on KBB alone.
If you want it gone ASAP, put a reasonable price on there and take offers. With the holidays and winter approaching, you might be able to get rid of it quickly.
If you can afford to keep it (i.e. the car is not really costing you anything), then put a higher price and work your way down.
Honestly, in the DC metro area. ANY beater can get you a good 2K in a AS IS sale.

Check to see what comperable vehicles are selling for in the area. If high mileage Cavaliers/Sunfires/Escorts/Neons of similar vintage are selling at or around book value, ask for book+ to start with. If they're considerably below, price accordingly. At this point, age, mileage and mechanical condition are the only selling factors, as many people buying a car in the $3000 price range are looking for basic transportation. The transmission rebuild would not factor into the selling price at any age/mileage, as that is more a cost of ownership. Sunroof/options at that age/mileage are kind of like a swimming pool on a house: probably not significant value adders, but might help you sell quicker.
