i recently noticed that my wifes 2002 cavalier's miles increse by 10 every time the car is turned on, any one know what may be causing this problem, the car was bought with 21k miles and in 2 years of use its almost 77k miles, and we mostly use my 2000 Ranger with 91k miles on it , any help to solve this mistery will be greatly apreciated.
damn dude, you've waited 56k miles to start asking questions? i have no response to help really, my best guess would be take it to the dealership.
GO PATS!!!
didnt notice caus i recently got married and started driving her car. id like to find a cure for this before i take it to the stealership.
I've heard of something similar to this before. It would have to be a problem with the Body Control Module (aka BCM) which accumulates the mileage. It's located under the dash above the hood release. The one I heard of before added 20,000 miles overnight. It was waaaaay overdue for oil changes
You could replace it with another BCM from another vehicle with identical options, and you'll get the mileage from that vehicle instead of yours. You'll also need to go see a GM dealer after this, because the car won't run and the stereo and keyless fobs won't work until you get the BCM re-flashed to the car's VIN. Or buy a new BCM from the dealer, and have 0 miles. But same deal, it needs to be programmed.
...j
ECM $150.07 + $100 Core
Brand New Cost... Can the reprogrammer flash it to a certain milage? or conversly... Will they flash it back to the Originial Milage
My old tour van had coffee spilled in the gauge cluster and the odometer stuck together (analog od), and for every one mile, it would increase 1000, hahahha.
I'm back from the dead.
Currently Driving: RSX Type-S.
My Cavalier Burnt up :-(

I actually think the odo reset itself becuase after all 9's, it loops back to 0's.

When I use to reprogram the JTech PCMs at Chrysler, I had to program the mileage and VIN into the ROM. I don't know if GM does the samething
