ok just thought id start a little talk about why cavalier has such a bad name. mostly everyone puts down our cars as crap not worth the money, and slow and useless. now i understand they are not muscle cars. but come on they are not as bad as everyone puts them out to be. i know the interior is not the strongest built and our brake system is not that good either. but its thrown out there that cavaliers cant beat anything race wise. but ive raced some neons, honda hatch backs, eclipes, and so on and won. but its always cavaliers still suck. everyone know that cavaliers have the ability to hit 500 hp but still being down apon. i just dont understand. im not to much worried about attention from other car models i could care less but, our cars in general are laughed upon. i just dont under stand. feel free to comment and put your two thoughts in.

I personally think that some people may refer the Jbody's to a "Girls Car" thats what i heard from some of the people that come into my work, but that dont bother me. I Love Cavaliers. I also dont understand why they make fun of our cars.

I think it's normally becuase whenever you look at a cavalier, you see the fatgirl, or old lady, chowing away at mcdonalds while driving 30 in a 40.
Also, so many other people trying to change their cavalier, but ricing it out, in turn.
If I was introduced as my first car to a honda, i would probably be a honda guy. but i got a cavalier, and realized it's hidden potential, which to many people, is still hidden.
I'm back from the dead.
Currently Driving: RSX Type-S.
My Cavalier Burnt up :-(
thats the way you want it guys the stick guys got hahn the auto guys use the charger from GM. Think about have you wanted a 2nd J i think about the time i would like to get a stick cav or sunfire to use the hahn kit. It hurt once my friends little brother who is 12 said my fruity little car is a girls car. but heres the thing Gay or homosexuals would not caught dead in any thing but luxury and women unless there old ladies would drive a J. also when people hear a whine, whistle people are either confused or nervous. also our cars a built F&&*ing tuff. take it from im a janitor and if it snow i have to be at work or i get fired, My sunfire did every thing i asked it too. I live in queens no road is flat over here non. Im proud of my J now i got charged my my blue mouse car can protect it self. o and the olf men with the muscle cars there day is coming too. A new camaro, challanger, charger, and mustang are on there way. if the numbers add up the V6 camaro with a stick should be in the 14s
why does there have to be yet ANOTHER topic about this?
Desert Tuners
“When you come across a big kettle of crazy, it’s best not to stir it.”
people talk @!#$ cuz its different... all the old schoolers laugh at us for modding fwd and 4 cylinders and messing with fuel injectors.
MOST of the sport compact sceen is honda/acura or dsm.. im sure you feel the same way when u see someone modding a sion xb.. its something different that not everyone does and not something you see every day.. doest mean our cars are junk.
bet you didnt know the geo storm gsi makes 140 hp just like our eco or a b18 integra. im sure ud laugh if u saw someone mod one.
12.5@116 2.0 60ft
^^ ya but it's a Geo Storm for god sakes..... just kidding... there are some 12 second Dodge Omni's out there that don't have much done to them, for some people it's not about what they drive, but how fast they get there.
Personally I think the fact people think our cars are crap adds to the fun a little. There's nothing better than the look on some Mustang owners face when he has his car at full throttle, and see's a Sunfire right on his ass and gaining. If I where driving a Civic or Integra, he might be suprised, but not completely dumbfounded with disbelief, wich is how most people look when they realize my Sunfire is as fast as it is.
It does get annoying when people talk trash about our cars.. but I just group those morons with the guys that think you need to do a smokey burnout with street radials at the strip... there just idiots talking out there asses and thats that.

k not that funny....
I loved my Cavy. Who cares what other people think.
its not like we're the only people that get @!#$. im sure the neon folks as well as other cars like civics get @!#$ just as bad. why? because its a econo box. face it, it is. yes you can make them look good and go fast but that isnt going to change the majority of the peoples mind. the majority of the time you see a cavalier, its a half assed put together pile of @!#$. when the name cavalier comes up, thats what they picture. half the people on this site are guilt of horribly put together cars, i hate to say it but its true. nothing is going to change the tuner scene and the way the people act so i dont know why people bother with it. do your thing the way you want and as long as your car makes you happy, thats all that matters.
heres my .02 cents
ive heard the girly car remark... my come back is ... well look at the celica, the Del Slows, and the RSX (Non Type S).... those are girly cars, way more girly than a cavalier.
the reason why cavaliers have a bad name in the tuner world is because of the 2.2s w/ automatics... they dyno 91 to the wheels stock... and the majority of our cars have this set up.
so when one of these imports beats a cavalier... what are they gonna do... tell their friends? "Hey man... i just beat a cavalier" its not all that impressive
but when a cavalier beats them... its a total embarrassment to them... i personally love it when their girl is riding in the passenger seat... "hey man, you just lost in front of your girl"... after that i usually wait to tell em i have a 2.4 litre motor N/A with some OEM GM Goodies.
everytime i go to the track.... there's always a sucker at the beginning of the day =P

For every really nice J-body, there's 100's that look like absolute crap. There's also about 3 riced out to every 1 nicely modded J.

Not that it matters, but this is a very true statement. I consider mine nice, so do some others, some may say it's rice though, and that doesn't really bother me. I get the is it a show car or a race car question a lot. My response is neither it's my car.

^^^ I wouldn't cinsider your car riced out at all.. I think what you've done to the body is actually tastefull. It's when you start getting into the huge wings, big ugly body kits, and start putting stickers all over your car, that it starts looking riced out.
I might put a CF hood on my car but thats it. I get a lot of crap driving a Sunfire with a stock body, but leaving the car look slow is fun.
I accidently chirped my tires taking off a little quick downtown last week, and the ricers and pickup guys all yelled and made fun of me thinking I did it on purpose and that I was trying to show off. If only they knew. Later on after I parket my car.. there was only one guy that wasn't snickering at my car because he had enough sense to notice by my exaust note that I was barely giving my car any gas when I did it. I don't even pop my hood much anymore because when people see it, there afriad to race me. Not that I wan't to race anyone, but I sorta want to keep people thinking my car is slower than it is... Sleepers are just too fun.
I think it's the Cavalier in general as it was stated. The non-J-body enthusiast 99.99% most likely has no idea that the Z24 is actually a slightly different animal and has a bigger more potent engine. I think they lump all cavaliers together. I remember one night a guy (cool guy BTW) was trying to run me in his Dakota 5.9 R/T. I finally humored him (since i figured he would walk me anyway) And actually ended up smoking his truck. Not once but 3 times....and it was mildly modded. He was in shock and couldn't believe how fast that little sucker is. He had me pull into a lot where his other R/T members were and was all like have you guys seen these little Z-cavaliers? one of his buddies were like yeah if it's a Z24 don't bother they have big nuts.
lol
I destroied a kid in a civic with a fart can onece and he couldn't believe it he followed me to work and had to ask me if my car was turboed or something. I said no their just fast. He was like yeah but your car is all fixed up with those rims and ground effects, i'm sure the engine is tricked out too, those aren't usually that fast.
i shook my head. No, nothing on this car is custom this is the way they come. it's the Z24 model.
my Z24 was bone stock on the outside, even the rims were bone stock Z24 rims. all i had done to it at that point was lowering springs, RK cold air, and catback. All he had was cut springs, and a muffler.
My girlfriends older brother once tried the you drive a girls car line on me. I told him "really, you drive the non-TT Dodge Stealth R/T and your going to call my car girly?"
That's a dressed up turd IMHO The non-turbo R/T's were nothing more than Stealth ES's with the R/T's body kit slapped on. If it's not the real Twin Turbo R/T it's a pile of crap. So told him "You want me to embarrass you in my grily car?" He took the bait and i smoked him in his wannabe automactic R/T.
And did the same to guy at work that used to run his mouth about his brand new (automatic) Mustang GT convertable being so awesome and my car is for pussies. I embarrassed him so bad that night in the parking lot after work a few months later he sold that car and got a truck. I was like "why did you sell the GT, i thought you loved that car?" He rolled his eyes and said it was slow peice of crap.
I actually loved being the underdog, It made the win that much sweeter. I usually refered to my car as a Z24 in day-to-day conversations about the car. But when i'd beat an arrogant jerk i made damn sure to call it a "Cavalier" because when they hear THAT name after being beat it was humilliating.

Hell yah... i like being faster than almost every other N/A 4 cyl (being n/a myself) on the street... and being faster than some of the V6s and V8s out there as well... (i also smoked a 2005ish GT Mustang 4.6L on the track) ... and my car looks like a stock cavalier with a black lip kit (2002 Front and Rear, 2000 Sides)... its great... no one ever expects me to win...
My motor fresh off the crate from Japan. (when the originial motor blew (long story, dealer's fault), i needed my car for a car show in 7 days... GM was on Backorder for a couple weeks, Jasper Backorder, Crate Backorder. After tons of searching i found a Japanese Machine Shop that had one and could 3 day ship it... so life began for this motor in a physical Toyota Cavalier)
Then people are like... oh thats why your fast... you have these High end painted engine parts... and i'm like...
theres just two parts... the IDI cover which does nothing for performance...
and the HO Mani which is off another GM Vehicle.
Then they are like... well your motor is JDM... and im like....
there is no difference between the American LD9 and the LD9 in Toyota Cavaliers
and then i'm like... "You just got beat by a almost stock cavalier" ...
by then... they're pissed...
hahahaha
My sunfire was once called a sunflower. My response, its my rose and it smells sweeter then your POS. Won off the line and on the quarter mile (off in the backroads of course).
Caviliers are cheap, just like the sunfire I own. My aunt has a Cavilier which I learned to drive on, moreso taking the road test with. You get these careless people who dont give a crap even if they knew the difference. Run it outta oil, fuel, drive it on flat tires, so on. Any car will fall apart, but our cars are cheap despite what we think. They are efficient, reliable, and fun to drive. I love my Sunfire.
Even a Sunfire/Cavilier with around $5000 aftermarket, blows between 225-500HP depending on what you do and how you put it together. Use parts that utilise the next and your get sometimes 50% more power, aka, cold air intake /mufler in unison to your intercooler/turbo kit. Google Sunfire racing, check out their dragster Sunfire, 1000HP! On the stock 2.2L DOHC, using 80% stock parts I think they said. Tuned it to the nuts!
