I'm considering trading my sad old 92 sunbird 2.0L in and buying a 2002 Sunfire 2.2L automatic I was looking at. I don't have a lot of experience with 3rd gen j-bodies. What are some common problems? Is there anything specific I should watch out for?

2.2 OHV or 2.2 ecotec? Cause the two engines are way different. The eco's actually have balls, but the OHV's definitely do not, and that's coming from someone who drives an OHV every day. I'm tryin to get rid of mine for an '03 eco cavalier.
00-02 are GREAT. no real common problems that i can think of. Good luck

get a 2003+ cavalier or sunfire, that year+ all came with the ECOtec
and get a five speed....you will love it! and dont tell me "but i dont know how to drive a five speed" i learned how to drive a fiver on my way home from the dealership(and guess what? i still have a clutch!) for real though i know thats not the smartest thing to do(and im sure the people inside were laughing cause i was on a hill and dident know what i was doing) but you will thank me later....oh and thank god i got the eco! get an eco!
I think it's an eco. And yeah, I can kinda half-assed drive a five speed. Just haven't done it since I learned how so I need practice. Thanks for the input.

Don't "think" its an eco, make sure. If you open the hood and it says "ECOtec" then its an ecotec, it if has a big ugly "air tube" that says "2200" on it, then its a 2.2ohv. theres a difference of about 25 horsepower, so if horsepower doesn't matter to you, get the 2.2ohv. I love my 02 fire, only thing I wish I would have gotten in it was the eco.
Also, you don't "have" to get an 03+. Early 2002 j's came with either the 2.2ohv or the 2.4. later 2002 j's came with either the 2.2ohv or the 2.2L ECOtec.
