Well her old 1990 Merc Sable blew a headgasket, so i took her to my local Pontiac dealer (know the guy very well, and ive personally gotten him enough sales to put his son through college)
Well by luck he had a 2005 Sunfire that he got at an auction because the dealer went out of buisness... Heres the best part
It has 162 miles, never been titled, fully loaded. PL, PW, Onstar, Leather stearing wheel, Sunroof, monsoon system, the chrome 15inch wheels. Its red, and guess what? 5-SPEED!!!
So, she's only 17 but he let us take it out (i told you i know the guy, he never takes my license or anything if i wanna drive a car) And she fell in love.
We drove a couple other cars, 03 Eclipse GTv6, Scion TC, but in the end she went with the BRAND new 2005 Sunfire (and it still has the full 3 year/36,000 mile warranty)
So my girl is now in the club, ive corrupted her.
And one more thing, 19,000 dollar sticker price, and she walked out the door at 14,100 INCLUDING tax, title, and she transferred tags.
Ill post pics tonight, i think im more excited than she is.

doesnt the warranty now extend to the new one that Geeds was talking about? the 5 year 50K i think it is.
Nah, and pontiac now has a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty
But since its a 05, it only gets the crummy 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Which sucks because In my experience (i live with3 ecos, and know a total of 6), the Eco NEVER needs major service. Well, at least they dont need to visit the shop within the first 55,000 miles.
Noone i know has been able to get use out of the warranty for the drivetrain.... My mom's has 60,000 and has never been in the shop except to get the head torqued down (had 15,000 miles and was slightly leakin oil)

im with this guy...i got my 2004 IN 2004 for a little less than 10,000
ummm... you guys arent reading, 14,000... The car has ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY MILES... Never been titled... So, its a BRAND NEW CAR with FULL WARRANTY for 5,000 under the sticker price... It just happened to sit around for 2 years.

I dont see how the fact that its a 2005 changes anything... Its still abrand new car.
Resale means nothing when you plan on keeping the car.

You got ripped off. Hell, priced at suggested retal, you still could have talked them down.

We still paid less than what he did...our sticker price was $2000 more than that and ours only had 30 miles on it.
@ sticker price on a GM Vehicle
You guys are harsh, we did the KBB value and it was right around what she paid before tax/title.
And im also taking into consideration that my family is close to Donny Burdette, of Burdette Brothers... If she ever has any problems with the car he will take care of it no questions asked.
Hell he rebuilt the engine in my 97 S-10 that had 75,000 miles on it 2 weeks after i bought it from him without any hassle. I told him it was knocking, we drove it... He took it and gave it back to me with a brand new bottom end. Tell me where i could get customer service like that on a USED vehicle with 75,000 miles on it anywhere else?
Ill pay the extra thousand

Ben Brown wrote:Ill pay the extra thousand
you mean extra thousands, cuz its more than just 1000
i bought my '04 in '05 for half of what you just payed (roughly before tax etc)
its a nice looking car with some nice goodies, but it's still over 2 years old and you bought it like it was brand new.
Brian
OMG... IT IS BRAND NEW.
2 years old, of sitting....
162 miles, never been title. Brand new

Weren't there a bunch of people getting brand new cavs and sunfires for 10k during the GM firesale in 2005?
---
holy hell, 14k for a sunfire? forget that, you got ripped off man, who cares if its been sitting there with 162 miles, it's not a rare car or anything special. damn son. i woulda went with the tc myself if i had 14k to burn.
I bought my 05 Cavalier brand new right after they came out with the Cobalts with a odometer reading of 8. I paid $11,400 out the door. It is bone stock though. No toys, moonroof, etc. Just the 5-speed I wanted with the graphite interior. Not that I'm trying to be a dick, but they are right in saying paying full price for a car like that is stupid and you should've talked them down. That car was worth that much when it was in demand and still being made, now its 2 years later and has been replaced and still has the small GM warranty. You could've bought a brand new 07 Cobalt for that price with the 5 year warranty. Should've looked around a tad more.
I'm skeptical about buying "new" cars that have anything over 50 miles on the odometer. How do you know that her Sunfire wasn't taken for the weekend, or beaten on by porters, used for something else, etc duing that 162 mile journey? Thats a LOT of miles for test drives for a car that hasn't been titled or owned. Something doesn't seem right there. Before I got my 05, I was looking into buying a "brand new" 03. Wasn't owned, still had the full warranty on it, etc. When I test drove it, two things caught my attention, one of which right away. The odometer had 240 miles on it. The second was that the clutch seemed...off. It wouldn't grab gears tight, seemed like it wanted to slip. The shifter was also a tad loose which bothered me. When I was in finance talking about the car and price, he gave me the odometer statement that said I was taking delivery of the car with "4" miles on it. I laughed right in his face. They seemingly wanted to forget about the extra 236 miles on there, and continued to push "that it was a brand new car with full warranty". Then they tried telling me that they could get these things fixed, but I needed a bigger down payment, so I told them off, went down the street to where I currently work and picked up my 05 with 8 miles, and drove home the same day.
Hey, like I said though, not trying to be a dick. As long as she can make the payments and she likes the car. Thats what count, if she enjoys the car.
Looks immaculate. Fully loaded, brand new, and RED
Great find!
Heya Ben, Nice sunfire, maybe got nailed a little bit for the price still, Least you got a warranty,
Good job.
