for those with REAL sponsors........
Tuesday, January 02, 2007 12:34 PM
well, im finishing up my proposal for 2007 sponsorships, and I had a question for those of you with real sponsors. When you are sending your proposals, are you sending them via email or hardcopy right to the company address? also, are you sending it to a general audience, or to a direct person/name at said company?
I'm having a tough time finding names of the people in the marketing departments for some of these companies I'd like to contact. any input you guys have is appreciated

ps - please do not post here regarding getsponsored.com or any of those scam sponsors please... thanks

Your best bet is to make a phone call or two and find out who's in charge of sponsorship/marketing. This not only shows them you'll put out every effort to get their attention but it also makes sure the mailroom kid doesn't throw it away. I usually just address it to the person without putting "Sponsorship" or anything on the envelope unless they tell you to. Another way to make sure they read it and don't just toss it in the pile of other applications.

Team Vision Racing has it exactly right. I generally email or call then they will tell you the person to contact and the best method of sending your information. Out of my 10 sponsors for 07 i would say 8 of them prefered email.

good luck

i'd call first as said. and only email if they request it, another thing is to call them up about a week after it was sent out just following up on it. it shows that your intrested. i need to get started on this as well though like i said to you its probalby getting to late almost for this year.

Sponsorships are not all they are cracked up to be. The bigger ones I have been involved with (Focal, Concept, Phoenix Gold, DecalDriven) have lots of requirements, because obviously they want to see profit from giving you something. Don't trust a company who wants you to buy their stuff and reimburse you if you mention them in a magazine or some kind of advertisement, specifically RK Sport welched on their end of the deal of reimbursing me for mentioning them 3 times in an article and I did it in two seperate magazines. But to answer your question, send them through the mail to a specific person and include photos of your work and anything relevant that you have accomplished. Make it professional with a mini binder presentation setup and send it by FedEx to show them you are serious and put your "best foot forward." This is much better than folding a shotty letter, stuffing it into an envelope and mailing it to "Attn: Sponsorship Committee."

Most company's have a person or persons in charge of that. Also there websites will tell you what they require, follow that if it does.

this isnt for every company I have one sponsor who I did this with and they reimbursed me full plus a bonus of $500 worth of accessories. Just make sure you have it in WRITTING, that is why email is best no matter how many phone calls you do you have no proof of what was said. Also be friendly most of the people you will be dealing with for this situation you WILL see at a show somewhere. The way companies look at this is you are a field sales rep. your pay is their product you do a good job the more you will get in return.

Your proposal should be clear and concise, and include the following information:

Details about the individual/organization requesting sponsorship
Project overview - what, where, when, and exposure (include photos)
Audience demographic and projected attendance
Goals and objectives of the project
Financial composition
Promotion - planned advertising, publicity (media releases) and presence opportunities
List other project sponsors
Evaluation and reporting process are needed please include photos and media coverage.

if some of us did we would be contacting them allready.

best bet is to start small. start locally. i went into my local shop this last friday and talked to the owner who i had met at a show last year and he is sponsoring me this year.

last year, I finished my and sent them out....followed up and was told that my car was a model that the company was interested in, but then I was told by some that they wanted to work with me....and I have sponsorships from show stopper tuning, turbo tech racing, les schwab tires, local paint shop with help from House of Kolor, and more. I sent in a proposal, and kept in contact with them...now to all the sponsors just "gave" me product...some did, but most of them I have requirements that I have to do....I don't mind though. Basically, find out by calling to see who to send it to, send a hard copy, and keep it touch with them.

New Sponsors: Show Stopper Tuning, Turbo Tech Racing, Izn Trbl Inc.

Anyone know about "Team SCP1?" I keep seeing this one now, but it looks like some "Car Sponsorships" rip off ad.

read what i wrote. if we new we'd be going after them.

if you can't think of a company who's product you want to have on your car why are you going after sponsors?

If you don't already have a heavily modified car, your chances of getting a sponsor is pretty slim.

exactly ...... hate to be a dick about it but for j's to be sponsored you need to sell yourself really well, im up to 11 sponsors totalling upwards of$26000 in upgrades

start dumping money into your car. start going to shows, allot of shows, allot of big name shows and take home trophies from them. start showing up in magazines and online photoshoots with car zines, start making a name for yourself and then you will have a shot at picking up sponsors. as it is companies who will sponsor our cars are getting slimmer since the cars arnt really being made and pushed anymore. so unless your a master salesman (wich you could be i dont know.) your going to need about 10-20k into your car before you start getting free stuff. and even then with that much into it your still going to have to be a great seller.

I suggest going to a local store gain a connection see if they will do a partial sponsorship, gain respect through them you'll eventually meet reps. Thats how I started, I also try and do a show every weekend. As for full sponsorship I wish you good luck, its a hard time now unless you already had a connection to begin with its hard to get in there unless you have a crazy plan. What I did is made a photoshop of what the car will look like, shows i plan on attending current sponsors, current magezine/media coverage, future magezine coverage. etc. the main thing for me this year was I have a major Title sponsor I am building the car for them using them for help to gain other people into the project. My car is already booked for 14 show booths, 10 dealer sales, 1 product launch, a tv series, 2 magezine features, so that was my major advantage lol
