ok, i have somebody interested in my 03+ sunfire fiberglass bomx wide mouth front bumper and im just a little concerned on how to ship it. should i wrap it vigorsly with syranwrap and news paper? i really think this might be safer than a box, as then they wont try and stack something on top of the box.
what do you guys think i should do?
I would shrink wrap the hell out of it and then put some bubble wrap around it then run packageing tape around the bubble wrap a few times and that will pad it perfect. trust me thats how I see people ship it through fed ex express all the time and never see damages either

x2
also, u may want to look into shipping it via Greyhound. for stuff liek that they seem to be much cheaper than UPS or Fedex!!
awesome guys-thanks. i wonder if the ups store sells the bubble wrap. wal-mart maybe? anywhere else?
joey- i dont think we have a local "greyhound" shipping service around here, at least i dont recall ever hearing about or seeing one. I will check the phone books though just to be safe. if not with them, who else should i go with?
also... how much do you think insurance would be on it? i already negoitiated price with him, but im gonna put insurance on it for him anyway.
thanks guys!

staples sells it. i bought some when i sold my spoiler. what i would do is get some cardboard and make little corner pieces and tape it to the bumper so the corners dont crack then bubble wrap the whole thing. then put it in a box.
hmmm, i like the carboarded egdes idea, but nay on the box.
acctually, i think i still have a ton of packing goodies from my CF hood, i think ill use that! lol
yea everytime ive recieved kits, they had cardboard on the corners to protect the edges. if you dont want to put it in a box, thats your call. i would because its a glass bumper and people at ups/fedex, just throw @!#$ around. wrapped or not, i still wouldnt take my chances
you dont need a box to ship something trust me I work at fed ex just as long it is wrapped up in shrink wrap and has a layer of package tape they dont care. I just got done shipping some z24 side skirts and thats how I shipped them

that wasnt my point. i know you dont need a box but its still safer, cuz alot of stuff just gets moved and thrown around in ware houses

fed ex express. I work there I drive a semi for them. As for cost I wouldnt know I could get you a quote but I get a nice discount through them.
if you put it in a box, perhaps you could write FRAGILE in big bold letters on the top?...i doubt they would treat it any differently, but could be worth a shot..
IMO buy the insurance and let them deal with it if it breaks. after all, you gave it to them in good condition. if the bumper retails for 500, buy 500 in insurance even if you sold it for 300. cause thats what it would cost to replace the bumper.

TRust someone who works in the shipping industry. DO NOT PUT IT IN A BOX. If you do it will more than likely get stuff loaded on top of it that could crush the box. Do not cheap out. Use plenty of buble rap and plenty of tape to secure the buble rap so it stays on the bumper. Also it is good idea to write both your address and phone # and there address and phone # on the package in permanent marker so in case the airbill that the shipping company puts on the package comes off or becomes unreadable they still no what to do with the package. The reciever's phone number is very important. Most drivers would call when they are in the area instead of dragging the bumper out of there truck and posibly having to put it back in because they were unable to deliver it. The quicker and easier it is for the delivery driver the sooner they will get your package.
Also 99.9 percent of the time shipping companies weasel out of damage claims by saying the item was not packaged properly. And it is far more likely not to get lost if you right both address on the package. By the way packages just vanishing are EXTREMLY rare. And are thoroughly investigated when it does happen.

Tell that to my local UPS. They lose/misdirect/send back my packages all the time... as for the thorough investigation... HA. That's laughable at best.
wade works for DHL, maybe they have better policies and better package handling than UPS.

Now thats funny DHL sucks bad. I had a ram air hood shipped through them they lost it three different times and by time it got to me it was a month late and it had four good size cracks in it and the corners were broke off. then I had racing seats shipped through them and they lost it one time and delievered it two weeks late that was the last time I made sure nothing coming to me got shipped through them. I have had no problems out of USPS, fed ex, and UPS
