Z type

Does anyone know the differance between the (Canadian) 2003-2005 Cavalier Z24 and the 2003-2005 Cavalier Z-type. The only difference that I've ever been able to figure out is the different wheels. Anyone have any idea?

Different suspension components and different interior bits as well.

The Z-type is a base model with the Z24 skirts and spoiler on it, AFAIK.

Z24 = legitimate GM model
"Z-Type" = Dealer rice, most likely a bare-bones 2.2 with a body kit and vinyl.

Short, sweet, and to the point.

And likely not true.

I'm pretty sure it was a legit GM Canada thing here.

Nah, it's just like "Z22" in the older years. Dealer stickering.

It's usually the Z24 appearance package, with 15" alloy wheels instead of the Z24 16" ones. What it came with varies depending on the dealer who installed the badge.

Just like Z22's... the dealer installed the badge... not the factory.

Ah. My bad.

Did the dealers also put on the skirts and bumpers and stuff?? I thought they were ordered like that from the factory.

I thought it was a factory thing. There are an awefull lot fo them around.

Everything on the car is from the factory - except the Z-Type badge itself. Z-Type is a dealer package, not an official GM model.

You could order a base model with a Z24 appearance package on it... which some of the Z-Types were...

just another way for the dealer to make a lil more money of the non-intelligent buyers

I don't think so though. Why not buy one of the Z-Type cars with the Z24 skirts, power everything, sunroof, etc. over a real Z24. The only thing you don't get is the 16" polished wheels...

IIRC the price difference when I was buying in late 2003 was about $3000 from the z-type they had to the Z24.

There's lots of other differences... depends what the Z-type you're looking at has. Some didn't have cruise control, or uplevel radios, or nicer seat materials... some had rubber headrests... some had base suspension... some had mid-level suspension... some didn't have body side moldings... some did.

Since the Z-Type wasn't an official model, it could be whatever the dealer wanted it to be.

Mine was a Z-Type (well the dealer put on SS badges instead )... but all mine has is the bodykit and the 15" rims and a/c. The rest is base base base base.
