my 1991 sunbird just died the other day due to an engine fire.
the car itself is in ok condition, but the bottom end of the engine is dead, and generally the car is a POS.
should I fix it? blow it up? push it off a cliff?
I was going to turn it into a full sized remote control car, but it died before I could.
what would you do?
no suggestion is too asinine
Do one of those fund raisers where people pay to bash it with a baseball bat.

Seriously, do that!
They brought one of those to my college once a couple years ago and made a small fortune...$1 gives you 1 swing.

I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
I'd go demo derby, but since the car is dead, the sledgehammer idea works too.
roll it down a large hill
rip out the internals and rent it out to a college kid as a place to sleep/urinate/do drugs etc
turn it into a huge rolling barbecue grill

Yeah I saw recycle it into something else...something cool. A BBQ sounds lovely.

donate it to some high school then write it off on your taxes
if it still ran, i would have built a ramp and jump it into a barn or something. make sure to video tape it.
could also tie a rope and pull it and do the above.

What you know about Street Racing anyways? Only what Fast & Furious taught us....
SO EVERYTHING!
At a local car show a while back my friend took his old neon there and let people hit it with a sledgehammer, and if I remember correctly he split the money with the organizer of the show, and still brought home like $1800 in CASH. I think it might have been a fair not a car show, but its been close to 6-7 years.

I used my beater as a $500 trade in for my Subaru. It was better than nothing. I told them it needed a jump every single time, didn't go into details about how crappy the car really was, but they said even if we towed it in, we got the trade credit. I'd feel funny smashing a car that I've owned!
Donate it to charity. You'll feel better about yourself afterwards.
Most charities will come get the vehicle, running or not, at no charge to you.
You then get to write off the Blue Book value of the car on your taxes as a donation.
The charity sells the car at auction, and uses the proceeds to help people.

agreed donate it to purple heart or something then its a tax write off
EXACTLY what I was going to say. More than likely I'll be donating my Cav within the upcoming week. I need the tax writeoff! Besides, I want a new daily driver -- this one has 232,000 miles on it...lol
Hoping to find another Z24 or mid-90's Grand Am GT. But like I said, donating it is the best option. Goodwill and various cancer and kidney foundations are all options, along with any already mentioned. Good luck.
Z24 BMW
its only a write off on the " long form ", isnt it?
some friends and i smashed the hell out of their beater car, man that was a blast.
Send it to get scrapped, around here theyl haul it for free and give ya 75 dollars........
God I'm gonna get flamed for this....
So, I wrecked my 1991 Corsica... I loved that damn car. Here's a pic how it looked after the wreck
Well, not immediately after wreck... about 2 weeks later. I had some fun with it. First, I made custom rims (which can be seen in the pic). Polished lip baby!
Then, I wish I had pics of this... but me and my friend Tyler bought some red spray paint, and clearcoat, tape, and newpapers. We put about 10" thick red racing stripes down the hood, roof, and trunk. Cleared it, and it looked pretty darn good. Took us about 2 hours.
So... driving around kinda sucked the door would rub on the back tire. So I went to town with a crowbar and a hammer, ripped the door off the car. It was wedged into the trunk, so it took some work. So I drove with a 3 door Corsica.
Here's the part where I'm gonna get flamed:
One night, drinking at a friends house, I get the idea to go offroading in the Arizona desert. My friends think it's an awesome idea, and we pack 6 people in the 3 door corsica. Go all through quad trails, jumping it, "drifting" through turns. We crashed twice, lol. Once into a treestump on the passenger side which just bent the fender up a bit. Car actually tilted sideways a bit then came back down. Basically ran over it with the pass side front. Then we jumped off a 10 foot decline, doing about 25. The car left the ground, all 4 tires, then landed perfect in the middle of the decline. Once the car hit the bottom, the oilpan hit a rock. tore a hole in it, and that pretty much ended the night. We pushed it home.
The car ended up getting abused for about 2 more weeks, similiar stories. I have a video on my HD of me driving the car through about 2 1/2 feet of water at the river... car went through like a boat. Engine finally seized.... twice (first time came back to life after addition of oil and JB weld holding the pan together), and we parted out the good parts of the engine. Made like $100 off of it. Oh well.
If anyone wants to see that 15 second vid ( no sound) of me going through the river ,let me know. I'll dig it up.

Greetings ... have you ever considered approaching the local fire department and donating it to them for training purposes. What they do is they'll set up auto extrication scenario(s) and tear the car apart with the "jaws of life"; you'd probably be allowed to watch even and depending on your municipality, a tax deduction as a donation may be available ... food for thought ... Regards, Irv
911 ... got fire?
