I saw a grey Cavalier sedan with black side mouldings, but no identification in the back. It looked like an 00-02 but the moldings extended across the entire perimeter of the side of the car. A piece in front of the driver's side door, the driver's door, the rear door and a small piece behind the rear door? Is this a VL or VLX?
Another Cav I saw--a coupe--had black side mouldings, but it was a black molding on a red body. The moldings were the same as a normal coupe, just black. this cav was an 00-02.
I understand the '95-99 cavs had dark grey side moldings, but these were two different types of black moldings.
Are these stripper cavaliers the VL or 'base' models? I didn't see an identification on the back, like 'CAVALIER' or 'CAVALIER LS' so I'm assuming they're simply rare.
Interiors standard fare--AC, CD player, manual windows, cloth seats.
A rare Cavalier? I am pretty sure thats an oxymoron.
people are doing amazing things with paint these days!
they are not rare
they are cavaliers that a dealership stuck on side mouldings and the mouldings happened to be black
there is no such thing as a VL or VLX
please, don't post any more stupid threads such as this one
there is no such thing as a rare cavalier or sunfire
now i'm gonna get the people that say the white interior sunfires are rare
yay for them
That's some crazy @!#$, I would have had to pull over, no way could I drive shaking all nervous like after a sighting like that.

no its called debadging. makes it look cleaner. go do it to your car... i guess the only rare cavalier is the toyota ones, esp TRD...but thats stretching it. go read something about your car or read around here....learn something.
FOR SALE: (5) '95-'99 Z24 Rims
Cool, I haven't seen a cavalier around in a while....nice find!
Isn't the VL and VLX the Canadian versions, instead of LS and LS Sport. I guess if you saw a VL down here in the states i suppose it could be considered rare
, but then again.... its just not that big a deal.

a cavalier is a cavalier. i don't care if its hot pink with an orange bumper and green side moldings, its still a cavalier.
GO PATS!!!

i assure you, if they strip, they can afford more than a cavalier.
VL = Value Leader
VLX = 4 door version
As already stated... they are Canadian models. They are legitimate models too... just base models with a few options added (can't recall exactly what options... but there are some variations depending on year).
However.. VL's usually came without ANY body side moldings... so the ones you're seeing, have been added by the dealer or owner. I've seen a couple around Vancouver too... always black (not the dark gray the older models had from the factory). Sometimes the same as stock, length-wise... sometimes all the way to the wheel wells, exactly as you described. It's not factory tho...
VL and VLX are Canadian we had:
VL = US Base Cavalier (Coupe/sedan)
VLX = US LS Cavalier (Coupe/sedan)
Z24 = US LS Sport (Coupe/Sedan)
