What to look for in an 02 - 04 Cavi

Well the loan on my 02 LS Sport is going be paid off in about 2 more months and i am going to be selling my current winter car, 93 Corolla DX. I want to take out another loan and get another Cavi LS Sport, but with a 5-speed. My question is though what should i be looking for when i look at different cars, like any common mechanical problems, etc.

I know this request sounds strange with me having an LS Sport but i have babied my Cavi for the last 5 years and *knock on wood* i have had no problems what so ever. And i am sure whatever car i get will not have had the same care as i have given my car. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Heh the clutch.. I bought a 03 LS Sport that had 600 and some miles on it.. Still new it was just the one the lot used for test drives supposely and had it sitting on the lot for close to a year..

So ya you get idiots wanting to drive it then realize then can't drive a manual worth a damn and there ya go.

So find one with low miles if it says "New" which is how it should be.. When I picked up my 06 Sentra Spec V it had 83 miles on it still looking like it just rolled out of the factory.

Had to change sig because some dickhead is mad it went 1 letter over size

Thanks, yea thats one thing i'm afraid of. Before i buy anything i'll probably bring it to work and put it on a lift, no matter how many miles.

Ya well the dealer wouldn't aknowledge the issue.. They'd drive it for 5 miles then say it didn't act up. I'm like ya it doesn't do it constantly and told them if I took it any other place they would actually inspect the trans.. All I got from that was "we do not accept outside assessments" pretty lame but not much you can do.

Just the main thing to watch for.. Mine got around 36k miles on and I noticed the clutch getting spoongier and spoongier each time I drove it.. Also notice my 1/4 went from 15.4 to 16.0..

Anything over 250 miles at the dealership that I worked at would be discounted as a "demo" vehicle. If you didn't get that discount then I believe you got bent over.

Even some of the more "non-respectable" dealerships sell 500+ mile model year vehicles as demo's.

front strut mounts

get it checked to by a body mechanic to make sure it wasn't in an accident, those private dealers (ex. Joe's Auto that type of deal) like to fix up wrecks and sell them.

(1) CarFax Report
(2) Diagnostic
(3) Check For Recalls (give GM dealership the VIN)

Sure, you'll pay for the first two but they're well worth it. He//, any problems you find you can use to negotiate the price down. That's what I did and it worked out well for me. Good luck.
