Just bought my second Cavalier :)

Today I drove down to VA with my cousin to pick up the 2002 Cavalier 5spd I won on ebay for $3299. I'm in love with the car already. I can pull 30mpg city and 42mpg highway out of my 98 2200 auto, so I can't wait to see how far this thing can go on a tank. The paint is very good and the interior is flawless. The motor feels strong and the shifting is great. The 2200 feels more potent with the manual transmission (although my Porsche 928 is my official thrill machine). I looked at all kinds of cars before deciding on another J, like the Civic, Corolla, Elantra and BMW 318, but the Cavalier ended up being by far, the most car for the money. $3299 just doesn't buy you much Civic amd the older Corollas are probably the blandest cars I've ever driven (and the EPA mileage is inflated). My 98 auto survived my high school driving phase where I'd beat the piss out of it on a daily basis, it served me through three different pizza delivery jobs, going to and from college, and has never left me stranded. It sits in my driveway as I write this, next to its new little brother. I know it's only a machine, but the J really grew on me. Some of the most memorable moments of my life were made possible by this car and now that I pass it on to my sister, I'm sure my new ride will be just as good to me. Sorry if I'm gushing, but I just had to tell you guys.

Sorry? Why are you sorry?

I don't think I'll be dropping it, I want it as drivable as possible. Anyway, here is the auction listing:

I took it out for a run tonight and I've got to say that the 2200 is a different beast entirely with a manual transmission. That first gear is sweet Only thing is it seems to idle a bit high. My 98 likes to idle at 600 rpm which consumes 0.3 gallons of fuel per hour, while this one idles at 900-100 rpm which consumes 0.4-0.5 gal/hr. I love how it likes to be shifted early and kept below 200 rpm. Can't do that on a Honda

Cool beans I like the color. i was just joking with the drop statement, cavis just sit so high when stock. Best mods I have done are all suspension. car still has its drivability but feels like its on rails and curvy roads are now fun

good luck with the car man.

Nice looking car, but you need to clean that engine bay first thing, based on the ebay pic it looks really dirty.

The manual transmission was the biggest upgrade. There are some other nice extras that the 02 has over the 98, but it's everything I need in a car right now. Like I said before, my Porsche 928 is for thrills, so don't feel bad for me. Feel bad for the poor idiots I know who are making payments on brand new 325's. The Cavalier is for reliable transportation, a platform for a great sound system, and low cost per mile operation and it does these things well. I'm a few weeks away from my Bachelor's degree, but even so, it will only take me 2 months of delivering pizza part-time to pay for the car completely. Don't worry, I washed the engine bay and replaced the stock stereo on the first day I got the car. A dirty engine bay and stock stereo tells me that the car is completely stock and hasn't been tinkered with, which is great. I just found the trunk release tonight, I didn't think it had one. My 98 has a cable release next to the seat and this one has a solenoid release with a button by my left knee.

you are a @!#$ tool !! go @!#$ kill yourself you wont be missed.

good choice on the car the 2200 is a strong motor and it will run for a long time i had a 2200 in my 2001 sunfire withh 140K on it and never had to change anything but normal things like the oil and that valve seal. i sold the car to a friend for 4G and its still running strong. it had plenty of pick yup for just 115hp it will leave a civic in its tracks. hope you enjoy the car and the nice ass gas miles will be a plus when gas is $4 a gallon

So far the car has been great. I tracked down a terrible rattle between 1K and 2K rpm that was the braided shield on the outside of the first cat. I fixed that, and it sounds a lot nicer now. Also, the rear view mirror fell off because the glue on the windshield melted. I'll be fixing that today.

The only other thing about the car that upsets me is the high idle which wrecks my city MPG. My auto actually does better in the city because of this. I noticed that unplugging the IAC valve does not trip a CEL, so I'm going to try to design a circuit to control the IAC valve that will make my car idle at 500 rpm instead (cutting idle fuel consumption in half) and cut off the air supply completely while coasting (reducing downhill fuel consumption by 80. I think this will bring my city mileage to around 35 instead of the 25 I get now. Can anyone give me information and pinouts for the IAC valve? Or should I create another thread for this topic?

Looks clean.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

Looks clean. I'm gonna say it was a good buy. No, maybe you didn't trade up, but the gas mileage and payments will still be low, plus you have a newer car, fewer miles on the engine, and of course you have a stick now. I have a 2200 auto and the single thing I hate most about the car is the transmission.

plenty of people will miss me unlike yourself
and also way to throw in ANOTHER diss on another car you probably know nothing about
halfj99 is prolly one of the only people that would agree with you on the statement to kill myself
i dunno what exactly i did to him, but whatever, we have our differences i guess, i dont really pay much attention to trivial internet bs anyways
