A Genuine need for a new forum
Friday, June 09, 2006 2:51 PM
With the release of HP tuners there seems to be an increasing amount of posts pertaining to the PCM and what it does and how to make changes that effect it, alot of these posts seem to be either in the performance or boost right now and if your trying to find info on the subject its hard to find info searching through many different forums

Its not just HP tuners theres a need for stock pcm questions, megasquirt support, emanage, aem, I dont know what to call it but it should be under the GO GO GO section maybe just call it tuning, or PCM help

Theres at least 11 posts right now in those 2 forums right now and as more ppl get this stuff its going to be even more, its fast getting to the point where the regular performance and boost related questions arent the majority of whats posted

if its a space issue im sure theres a few forums on here that could prob use deleting, no need to have 2 anything goes forums, the generation forums dont see much activity

have a new forum in the go go go section, call it PCM Tuning, and in the forum have stickyed topics for each different tuning software, ie hp tuners, megasquirt, aem, etc...

i think its a great idea

in my opinion -

over the years, i've noticed a trend - whatever is the hot topic is what will get the most similar posts. anywhere from when the first 00 clear corners came out, to 10 threads about headers, to then intakes, to coilovers, to konis, and konis, and konis, to who has a bigger wang, etc. i think people who post, post because they see something similar, and it goes with the atmosphere. i think it'll blow over just like every other major topic.

The eco has more ability to be tuned in the PCM than any other J engine and most new J owners will be ecotec owners, this is a trend thats going to increase not decrease

well, not necessarily a trend, but a fad. eventually, it will be the usual one or two posts.

I have the biggest wang so that settles that.

No, I have the biggest wang.

And I agree, we should have a forum for this stuff. But I also wish we had a forum for the different engines so everyone that has "X" engine can go in and talk to others that also have that in common, rather than having everyone argue about what engine is better and who's ass hurts more.

I agree there is a genuine need for an ECM forum. I know if I had HPTuners I wouldnt QUITE know whether to ask questions in the boost or performance section. Since the 2.2 eco in the J has essentially been cracked wide open, we are definitely in need of a forum that deals directly with the ECM. Heck, it can always be deleted if it doesnt work out, but I have a feeling it will.

this is the third time its been discussed, and I belive that viper hit the nail on the head.

there is really only one topic that would go in this thread and thats hpt. MS emangae and pretty much every other tuning tool has all but disaperad from these boards. so yeah the guy is exaclty right this is just whats hot right now.

oh and the best thing to do IMO is to jsut keep awnsering every question that comes along so we can just build up a strong database on the subject and there wont bee a need for a fourm

That's assuming people will actually search for their answers. And come on now, it hasn't worked in 5 years, why's it going to change now?!

Well, I believe that my wang is the biggest, but since none of us can or would (I hope) post pics, we all must agree to disagree. One thing is for certain though, whoever has the nicest j-body most definitely must also have the biggest wang, therefore, we must all post pics of our cars and whoever has the nicest car can be presumed to have the biggest wang.

I ain't skurd to post a pic of a big wang

Anyway if we can have "other cars" as a forum topic I don't see why we can't have one for HPTuners. More and more people are gonna start using it IMHO.

I agree with Viper. I do not see a need for another forum. Why take up space, band width. When after a short period of time it will fall off. I think performance and Boost can handle these topics. Plus everyone says nothing but crap is in those forums, so this will put good stuff in there.
Also I do not see where the Ecotec has the most tuning of all J's. It is the Ecotecs that can not tune for 2 bar maps, but yet a 2.4 can. Truly who cares which motor has the most tuning option, this is a good thing for all J's, so lets not make this a eco versus LD9, or 2200.

I agree, we have a few forums that arent even related to Jbodies. I know there are plenty ppl who love and frequent the other forums like Other Cars, but is that really needed here?

So true. Even if the boost and performance forums were filled with threads with the answers to any questions that may be asked. There will always be ppl who won't search or won't be able to find what they are looking for.

I think there needs to be a forum to discuss ecu tuning, as most people have little to no experience, and there is a lot of knowledge to pass arround... So far as demand, I just went to the HP tuners forum, and in there 4L threads, there are 18 topics that have been posted to since June 1, there have been 73 threads started since the software came out 2 months ago. I think Shifted has also started a websight with many how-to's, and some forums. I guess the question is do we want to encourage people to discuss ecu tuning here, or somewhere else?

I'm not trying to stir anything up here, just mentioning that some other sights may have much more experienced members to help with questions about the tuning with individual software.

Why don't we just make an alternate forum all together! It's easy to make a free invision or Proboard forum!

I honestly dont see what it would hurt.

If people want to keep shooting down this idea thats fine. I just hope Dave/Mods make their opinion known so we can be done with this topic.

this has been brought up before to dave and he didnt see the need. nor do i really. you could problaby go to the interior section and find 20-30 posts in the last week about fiberglassing but that doesnt mean it needs its own forum. just leave it as is and search the the posts to find it, its the best way because when you go thru the posts you normally find several other posts that are somewhat related that you can check out as well.

Dealing with PCM is not something that (a) thread could handle. It's complicated s-h-i-t. Depending on your tailored modifications, help and ideas are going to be out there, especially as the info/news is evolving. Case in point: the numerous threads out there on the same subject.
This is not the typical "which is the best struts/springs" or "which intake is best" or "how do I remove the governor."

I really believe R-Prime has something going here and that is important as the rest of the Go-Go-Go topics.
