so i take my car in to a local western pennsylvania dealership for an intermittent problem with my ABS/TCS. they have failed to solve the problem twice before and still had no idea so i had them replace the front wheel speed sensors and BCM. *note this car is no longer under warranty* i brought the car to them with 43,000 miles on the odometer. i go to pick up the car and there is just over
50,000 miles on it! since it is physically impossible for them to log 7000 miles in 4 days, and the car definitely didnt look like it had been driven much since i left it, i am forced to conclude that my odometer has been altered through the BCM. the service sheets i received state that they received the car with 50k on the clock.
outside of my own crude maintenance sheets which have no dates listed with the mileage, i dont have documentation that the mileage has been altered.
im supposed to do now?
That's why sadly...you should always take it to get serviced at the dealer or a shop.

Go talk to the dealer. Calmly. If there is any problem, talk to the service manager.
I didn't know it was possible to modify the odometer.
You have to ask yourself one question........why would they do it?
didnt he say the dealer did it?.. Anyway they replaced stuff with used parts ect off a car that had the 50k miles since its digital?
so i take it Cavaliers don't store their odometer readings in the ECU?
Which Dealership did you go to?

It's stored in the BCM..

Did you take it to a certified GM dealership? Everytime I take my car to one (which is hardly ever), they give me a work order of what they think they're going to do which acts as your reciept before I leave my car with them. That also contains a printout of the vin, mileage, etc on it. Once they figure out what's wrong, they tell me the charges over the phone and I approve it. When I come to pick the car up, an invoice is then prepared to which I sign and pay.
The BCM on our cars holds the mileage data. Sounds like they up and threw in a used BCM and tried to get away with it. I think you're SOL without a work order OR hard proof that your mileage was 43k when you brought the car in for work.

Ah, I missed the part in your post where you say they changed the BCM.
I thought they only did something with your ABS, and not actually replaced items on the car.
They changed your BCM.... there ya go. They replaced it with a used one, with 50,000 miles on it. And then used a Tech2 to reflash the keyfobs and radio.
the dealership is Mel Grata Chevrolet / Toyota / Scion. yes it most likely was a used bcm. the work order was not shown to me until after the services were performed, and the order said the car came in with 50k. yes i know i should have pushed the issue of seeing the work order before, but im a frequent customer of this dealership and never had a problem before so i overlooked it.
However, i did get lucky today and found the original BCM laying in the shop. they hooked it back up and *BAM* 43000 on the clock. so proof was had that the replacement BCM was inaccurate and they ordered a new BCM. going to pick it up this afternoon hopefully. wish me luck...
im still pissed that the service rep flat out lied to my face the other day and denied any problem or responsibility and that will not go unnoticed. some people do not deserve to be employed...

I would report this to the BBB in your area....
i wokr for a dealer. the best thing a customer ever does with us, is camly, and like an adult, discuss the problem with the service writer. if it doesent result in satisfactory results, then calmly ask for the service manager. dont insult, and dont give attitude. explain what you think happened to the manager, and listen to his response. if it doesent sound legit, then you need to speak to the owners (which proabably wont help any further) or then btich to chevrolet itself.
i know when people bitch to volvo (i work at a volvo dealer, sadly) the owners just crumble and do whatever the regional office says. thats what i would reccomend.

better business bureau is where i would definately go...if you wanna push the issue.
i definately would pay for anything after the original service. if they want to charge you to install the new BCM and charge you for the new BCM itself, i'd pay for it, and then take it to the BBB. they'll go after the dealership and get you your money back.
GO PATS!!!
the BCM they put in your car will DEF have a VIN on it! Check it against your own! they'd have to program it to make it work. Tell them you wouldnt have the resources to program it so its there F UP! good luck keep the posts up!

Maybe I'm thinking wrong but wouldn't the dealer put a sticker on the drivers door jamb that says that the odometer is wrong and this is what the car had on it when it was replaced? If they didn't do that then there's something wrong, but I've never really liked Mel Grata anyway. My Dad bought a few Chevys before he got into the whole Cadillac thing and he bought them at Greenwood's Hubbard Chevy, they seem like good people.
problem solved with the mileage since i proved the old bcm had 43k on it. however the original issue isnt fixed. abs and tcs still dont @!#$in work. its got some deep seeded electrical issues. just gonna trade it as is, take the $ and run
Zero - i see your car every day in brookfield / hubbard but never knew it belonged to someone on the .org. im lookin at buying a car from hubbard greenwood right now. my father just bought an 04 vette from greenwood hubbard. they seem like an ok place
It is possable that they switched your ECU with that of another J that they may have had as a trade in and planned to send it to an auto auction.

Maybe the problem is one of the REAR wheel sensors.... ?
I've seen the Vette around, love it!! I think I've seen your car at some shows, very nice. I love the look of the wheels on a Sunfire.
lenko - i have thought of the rear wheel sensors, but the codes being thrown say its the front sensors, which i have replaced both 2 months ago.
zero - thanks man
