General Motors posted a net loss of $286 million for the second quarter as its core North American auto operations lost $1.2 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The world's largest automaker's global automotive operations lost $948 million, despite profitable results in three of its four regions, which were eclipsed by the North American loss. The overall loss is $286 million compared to net income of $1.4 billion. Revenue fell 1.5% to $48.51 billion.
Among GM's few positive developments: Its global market share rose, as did its share in North America, thanks to recent discounting programs which proved popular with buyers.
Still, GM North America's second-quarter loss compared to profits of $355 million during the same period last year. GM North America has registered about $2.5 billion in losses during the last six months.
