well, when you come on here, and you expect to be in a place where everyone is trusting and not trying to scam anyone, i was thinking maybe he got it for a present and didn't realize the value of it, or maybe he can ship stuff for free using his company account or something. It's just too bad that everyone can't just be honest with each other, and legitimatly sell their parts or whatever. There's no need to criticize for attempting to jump on what looks like a good deal.

paypal

Remember with paypal, you can only charge back up to 30 days later (I believe), I personally would charge it back now, but if you want to wait, find out how long you can...

^^^^^exactly. charge it back NOW. do NOT wait!

and i searched the registry....i didnt find even ONE account for a david or dave richardson, much less TWO. ????

brett or weasel: maybe you guys can suggest to dave that in order to place an ad in the classifieds you have to either 1)be a registered member for X amount of time (like maybe 6 months) or 2)have X amount of posts in the forums (to help make sure you arent a troll or scammer). or maybe ill just make a post about it.....

i think you should require some kind of legitimate info so that if someone scams a person they know who the person is , where they are from etc.

Even with safeguards like that in place, people will still get scammed. Beyond just shutting down the classifieds, the only real solution is to keep telling people to CHECK UP ON THE PERSON before you make a transaction. If you're not sure about them, DO NOT BUY.

There's been plenty of history here of people getting scammed and we don't even move posts out of the general forum that are asking about suspicious looking sellers anymore.

With the 10's of thousands of users here there's bound to be someone well known here in the same area as the person you want to buy something from. Have them check the person out! Ask about them in their regional forum. If nobody knows them... or only other people nobody knows seem to know them... then don't buy. You're better off not getting the great deal than losing your money to a scammer.

I hate to say it but after all that Chris Simpson stuff going down in the General forum, it BAFFLES me that this could happen so soon after. Just because someone is here on the .org doesn't make them trustworthy. There are no controls here over who joins and posts. With this many people, there are bound to be lowlifes lurking among us. This isn't the close-knit community of 5 years ago. This is now the new age of the Internet where you trust nobody. Get used to it and stop being so naive!!

As for this... I believe there is a requirement that you not have false info in your registry and every now and then we'll crack down on it and ban or delete accounts which have obviously fake or missing info.

With that in mind... there's absolutely no way to check up on what appears to be valid info to make sure it's good, nor would any of us have the time to do so.

brett: i thought about that, but wasnt sure why he would have before the situation or question was resolved. i guess its better to have done it because there just isnt any way that this was for real.

well, he has told both people who have paid him money that he has sent each of us kits, but he also said he was gonna ship UPS, and he said we didn't pay for a tracking number, so we don't get one....well...being UPS, i believe tracking number is automatically issued...correct?

Yeah, I don't think you can ship with UPS and not get a tracking number.

Not necessarily...

When I ship things via UPS Store, I have to ask for a tracking number. Now, the tracking number is issue free of charge, but it isn't automatically given to you (at least in my experience) without actually asking for it.

tracking info was requested well before the kit was even ordered when all the delivery info and questions were being asked on my part. if he knew that it was requested then why not get a tracking number. everything is logged in UPS. there has to be a way to know whether this has gone out or not. regardless, the info was requested and no one ever mentioned anything about paying for a tracking number....and i am sure that had anything been mentioned ryan would have said...hey, please get me a tracking number and ill pay for it.

from my experience, the post office is the only thing that doesnt provide tracking numbers. every one else i have shipped through has the tracking number on the receipt. that includes UPS. youre being jerked around...

my boyfriend owns a business and ships parts daily. UPS never fails to give tracking no matter what....local mail will not accept boxes that big either...and even so, you can still track through mail...i had to do it to find a lost check i sent out.

well, it's obvious we're being screwed around...he just said he shipped it probably to buy some time so he could return our money or something...i'm guessing he did this because he was short for cash on valentines day or something, and just needed a quick $300 or so...

Re: has anyone done business with DAVID RICHARDSON

You can speculate all you want but there is absolutely no excuse for this sort of thing and if he was short money then, you can bet he's still short money now.

If anyone is actually sitting back and waiting to see if anything shows up in the mail and hasn't already been trying to get their money back then I really hope you're not losing out on any opportunity for restitution by doing so.

we've both done everything we can in attempt to get our money back....if i recieve a kit, i'll be happy and that was $300 well spent...if i don't, then i will continue to attempt to get my money back.
