To everyone with painted mirrors, did you disassemble the mirrors so There wouldn't be any black when they are folded or the mirror position is changed? Here is mine. I don't know if I am being anal, but if anyone wants me to do a write up I will with the other mirror. I realize there aren't too many of these mirrors anymore.
Provided I can get these pics to work!
I will have to email pics, I guess I can't link to Picassa because of the html or something

how did you take the mirror out? while your at it you mite as well get a pass side made so its more useful. i hate the "DRIVER" side toyo mirror lol
sounds good to me. the more to can disassemble for prep/paint... the better.
Ok azn, here is the toyota "driver" us passenger side. All I did was put a slotted screw driver under the mirror, between the housing. I used it to pry these two tabs from the white plate that it rides on. Then lift and pull.
You can see the clips on the top are shaped like "L"s, so you just pull on them. It makes more sense if you are looking at the mirror.
I will take take the US passenger side to an auto glass shop to see if they can "fix" it. I have seen the stuff you cut with scissors, that is option 2 if the glass shop wants too much.

I tried to highlight the clips here.

I separated the mirror housings from sail panels when I painted mine, but I didn't take out the mirror itself. I don't have any black showing when the mirror position is changed.
