MMS Lambo questions....
Saturday, September 30, 2006 1:29 PM
Okay I bought these awhile ago for my 2.2 but I'm now parting the car out because I bought a z24 a couple months ago, and I was going to just sell these hinges but I never thought I'd have lambo doors ever so they're kinda hard to give up so anyway.... I didn't have them professionally installed by any means, just some of my brother's friends who have done 1 or 2 before. My biggest problem was when opening the doors, something would hit/rub up against the "claw" latch thing inside the door that latches the door shut. I'm going to assume that this was because the shock was too strong and when you opened the door regulary it immediatly pushed the door up a bit (like it would lambo style). SO everytime I would go to close the doors I would have to push the claw latch inside the door back open with my fingers, a HUGE PITA. Or maybe the hinges were set tilted too far towards the front so the door was forced to tilt back and lock, thus when opening it would push forward and hit the latch? Do you think the shock was the reason why it was doing this or the way they were mounted? Have you encountered any problems with your set ups like this or any other problems? I'm just extremly hesitant to put these on my Z because I pretty much made myself hate my 2.2 because of these things. Thanks for any feedback.

My passenger side does the same thing if people lift up when opening the door from the outside. The easy way of fixing it is to remind people to push down slightly on the door when opening it. Everyone who rides in my car has learned to check the lock before closing the door so it's not as bad. The driver's side is fine since the shock is slightly weaker (just makes it easier to close and open, no problems with it falling on itself).

That's what I had to do as well, push down on the door while opening, but if I'm going to have to do that again then you're damn right those things are NOT going on my car.

lol my passenger side shock sh*t the bed as well, within 3 months and I pretty much never put either door up lambo style, so the passenger side one only when up for pictures. I'm def. thinking this kit is complete junk, then again I should've know that when I saw the price at $500.

Junk? I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Over 300 kits have been sold to the J community alone. Of course there are going to be a handful of kits that don't fit right, but we always stand behind what is sold and we will do whatever we can to fix the issue....whether it be the kit or shock......

For the money, i love my kit. I havent had any problems with the actual kit itself. The only problem i have had is shutting the doors sometimes is tough, but overall im not complaning. Id much rather pay 500 and have a nice kit then pay 1000 and have a kit thats a little better if any.

I'd have to stand behind Joe 100%. The kit isn't perfect, what kit is? I've had one shock go out, Joe sent me a new one and no more problems. The doors don't close right due to the lock jam, no biggie. I saved $500 by buying from Joe and I have no regrets (other than overtightening 2 nuts on my passenger side door and breaking the bolts...). These are definately not POS or junk, they're another mass produced product that was available for a cheaper price than other kits, they have some problems (shocks mostly but Joe does his best to fix things), but if you want to spend $1000 and still have some problems, go ahead. How many people spend big money on lambo kits? Not too many. How many people can afford a $500 lambo kit? Over 300. The more people that have it, the more people to complain that something doesn't work.

i have the same problem with my latch. never tried pushing down on the door when opening though. it doesn't really bother me personally. while my car is under construction and i'm driving something else though i often catch myself going to flip the latch up lol. overall i'm very satisfied with the kit. i've had 1 shock go on me but i think that's more due to rust and a lack of regular maintanence which is my own fault. i still have to replace that...

Did you grease the hindges at all?
Did you play with the adjustments on how low or high the door can go down when shutting?
Is the hindge itself alligned properly when bolted up?
What LBS are your shocks to begin with?

In all honestly...no matter what Lambo kit you get, shutting the door is a pita. Is it meant for a daily drive? No...It will be a huge hassle on a daily driven car.

I have the VDI kit, and I still need to watch out when I shut the door. My shocks blew after only 3 months of having the kit. I bought new shocks from Joe and for 1.5 years now they are still as good as new.

Playing with the hindge here and there might help solve some of your problems.

Also...I do believe on the passenger side of the hindge, the section that gets bolted to the frame of the car itself, that area of the hindge is too big, and needs to be cut down slightly, so when you shut the door it closes properly. I know when I installed one MMS kit on a guys car, we had to cut down the hindge 1/4 of an inch or so, that way the hindge would go back down properly and the door would shut without a hassle.

Shutting it isn't the problem, the problem is when opening, the door goes up by it self just enough to hit the latch thing inside the door.....then when you go to close it you have to use your fingers to open the latch so the door will shut, do you think replacing the shock that supports less weight will help this? Mine came with 750lbs test shocks.

Ohhh....The latch in the door that locks the door into place...

mine did that before aswell...I cleaned it up really good and used some grease to lube it up.

It could just be a coincidence that it happened the same time perhaps.
