how do i take the trunk lock out?i took off the clip and there is a black cable how do i get this off without messing it up?

i just pulled..kept turning it and stuff trying to get it off and then i just finally yanked on it and it popped off.. but i wasnt using my anymore so i didnt care if it did break but it didnt seem to..
