Rear bumper removal- 01 cav
Wednesday, August 03, 2005 11:27 AM
I searched the topic but didn't find anything that really helped.

This Friday I'm FINALLY installing my drift kit. I need to know how the rear bumper comes off. I already know how to do the front.

Any help would be much appreciated.

(I'll describe only one side as it mirrors itself on the opposite)

Trunk- Pull back carpet by unscrewing the little thing-a-ma-jiggers holding it in place. You'll notice two screws which use a 10mm socket (all these bolts and screws do actually) undo both of those. Look around the area of your tail light and you'll notice a bolt holding on the plastic pieces that are between your tail light and rear bumper, also undo that. Then move your way to the rear tire wheel well. There you'll find two screws also. After that, just mirror that same list onto the other side. Once finished with the top go to the very bottom of the bumper and unscrew each of the bolts holding the tabs to the bottom of the bumper support. Unplug your license plate light and you're done!

Once bumper is off, get a sawzall and cut about 3-4in into the bumper support plastic thing in the middle and lightly shave down the two individual sides!

ONLY SHAVE INTO THE BUMPER SUPPORT. NOT DOWN! THIS WILL ENSURE CLOSE AS POSSIBLE FITMENT WITH THE TRUNK LINING AND HAVE A BETTER CHANCE AT NO SAG

After you get the stock bumper off take the stock black boxes located on the fender area off of the bumper by pulling that gay plastic holding screw off, and unscrewing them from the bumper. Install these onto the drift rear using the provided self tapping screws (dont know if you got these from the company) and line it up as close as possible to stock. These black boxes ensure that the stock scres will still be able to go into the aftermarket bumper in the provided OEM spots already there!

With most drift bumpers there will be some sag so go out and purchase atleast 8 L type brackets from home depot and small self tapping screws if you don't already have them!

Check fitment as much as possible as you don't want your bumper sitting crooked or anything and once everything is lined up nicely re-install, step back, envy your work, and grab a beer!

I can get you pics if you want also of anything! My rear is in the shop getting painted as we speak wOOt
