My friend has a 96 sunfire GT with a pin stripe. I'm having trouble removing the pin stripe. I can remove it in small chunks. I use goo gone on the remaining gunk but that is using a lot of goo gone and its not removing much. I thought of using a label/pinstripe remover I seen in an aerosol can. Its tough though since its a 9 year old stripe
Try the vinyl sticker removal in a spray can, it works ok. All I did was peel it off in small chunks and use either Goo Gone or WD40 for the crap that is left (but mine was newer).
it may be hard to come off since its an older car. even on my 98 when i got my car repainted about 2 yrs ago, i tried to take it off but i couldnt since it was in the sun for such a long time, it was almost like it was painted on.
Try heating it with a hair dryer, make sure you do not get the paint too hot...
But heating it up will make it come off easier, or at least it should.
Some pinstripes are actually painted on, there is a logal guy to me (NW Indiana) that charges $100.00 for hand painted pinstripes, he uses a normal paint brush, free-hand.
Another guy in the area uses an airbrush charges about the same.

I forgot about the hair drier.

make sure it is actually vinyl. i know my pinstripe is painted on and unless i get the whole car repainted, i'm gonna have to live with it. if it is vinyl, use a strong bug & tar remover, i heard (but don't know myself) that wd-40 works very well too. good luck.
I've removed about a foot or so, so I know it'll come off. guess I just gotta do it in steps...do the door...wait a couple days, do the fender...wait a couple days lol
use a pin stripe eraser they are like 10 dollars put it at the end of your drill and run it against the pin stripe . after that buff or wax should look like new.
this month's "popular mechanics" issue has a how-to on removing vinyl--spray it with ammonia, cover it with plastic (saran) wrap. wait 10 minutes then spray again with fresh ammonia. it's supposed to weaken the glue, not the vinyl, and make it easier to come off. i personally have always used a hair drier.

It has to be the age of the car affecting because I just peeled mine off on both my cars and goo gone took off residue very easily

Man ammonia burns the piss out of my eyes from 10 feet away, would suprize me if it is clear safe.
Even if your stripes are painted on, as long as stripes are outside clear, the hair dryer should loosen even the painted on ones.
If stripes are under a clear coat, grab the high speed buffer and burn them f#@$ers off
j/k DO NOT USE A BUFFER TO REMOVE PINSTRIPES!!! IT WAS A JOKE!!!
Unless you are very very experienced with a buffer, cause I "THINK" it's possible( I have never done, nore ever heard of anyone buffing off pinstripes, hence the "THINK").
ok...I'll repeat one more time...ITS NOT PAINTED ON lol. I might try the ammonia trick on the quarter panel that needs repainted anyways...if it works there I'll do the rest of the car.
i recently took mine off and unfortunately it was with my thumb. it took forever and it hurt my hands but it looks real good now after i cleaned off the glue and waxed it

i know the amonia trick is what your supposed to do to take window tint off
i guess it makes the tint almost take itself off your car... lol.
i just pulled mine off in 90 deg weather it came right off i just used my fingers.
Go to a dealership and ask one of the porters to borrow some Acrosolve. I used to be a porter and we used it all the time to get pinstripe off of the new and used cars
ive heard of using nail polish dont know if it works or not

I read the same thing in PM.
When I got mine, it had a couple large SS decals on each side, with a stripe from hood to trunk.
I used some OrangeClean and it came right off.
