In stock form highest I have seen was like 6 degree's. This field can be modified with HPT.

Ok John thanx. Six degrees retard from where? What is the factory timing setting? It was a 2 part question.

Thanks

From wherever the timing is at when it decides it needs to retard it, its over the entire spark table.

Its hard to explain unless you see it...

There are IATvsMAPvsRetard (I think, its either MAP or TPS) and RPMvsMAPvsSpark Advance. They are both 3D tables so the IAT table affects the spark table in the same "buckets" as the MAP slot you are currently in. The thing to keep in mind is there is no "spark advance number" for the car, its a table that is 14x14 I think (196 values), and the IAT retard table is somewhere around 6x6 (36 values). So answering a question like "what is the factory timing" has no answer, other than "it depends on MAP and RPM". Adding insult to injury, there are 4 spark tables and multiple "modifier" tables like the IAT that affect the actual timing value the ECU uses during that particular ignition cycle.

Hey shifted thanx but for someone who doesnt have the tables infront of them, what is the lowest degress retard capable of a factory '05?

Maybe if you explain exactly what you are trying to get (info that is) we can help you more. The lowest amount of retard in the IAT field is 0 (which is changable, and depends on engine temps.
So exactly what are you trying to figure out?

Hey John thanx dude!!!! That was what I needed - lowest retard setting.

I am old & old school & still appreciate a good chevy long block with a distributor - 396cuid / 375 hp, new @!#$ is all a.f.u. to me.
sry for the confusion!!!

If you are still out for the best MPG easily, alot of the guys on the mpg forums are running their intakes by their exhausts to get better mpg. The hotter air is requires less fuel to burn. I know you had been asking about mpg in other forums. I have no idea if the intake moving works. Several others swear by it.

If you are up to something different, I have no answer on IAT vs timing
