New to Tuning, questions about HPT
Sunday, July 22, 2007 7:59 PM
Hey all,

Like the title states i am new the the hole tuning thing but very eager to learn how to. As of right now i can find nearly nothing about PE Mode. So i guess ill start there.

PE stands for Power Enrichment correct?

What exactly does PE do to the car? Advance spark/timing increase fuel, etc?

when dropping it down in rpms what does this actually do?

Does all of the things from the above question just sooner?

Any downsides of having a low PE mode rpms setting?

Yes, It will enable PE mode at this RPM.

PE mode should be entered at maximum VE(normaly mid rpm).

If you're referring to the PE enable Delay RPM, it's actually the RPM threshold at which below that rpm pe is delayed, and above that it is not delayed. however PE can still kick in even if below that rpm. To know when PE actually kicks in, use the PE enable TPS, TPS vs. RPM table. you'll probably want to lower the values, but not too much or you'll start entering pe under normal driving conditions.

put the delay at zero.

there's several thresholds that need to be surpassed in order for PE to be engaged

the two big ones are
-throttle position
-rpm

if you set the delay to 0rpm, anytime you mash the gas pedal you get power enrichment. this is a good thing, especially if you are boosting the car.

there's no reason to delay PE. I get great gas mileage, and PE is only on when I have it to the floor.

This is true except the way PE is setup, at higher RPMs it engages with far too little Throttle Position...

I have actually entered PE mode before on the highway making little to no boost with just a bit of throttle.... this is not exactly what you want.

PE is really for WOT or heavy loads on the engine, under 85% - 90% load the engine doesn't need anything else other than stoich, so why set it up to go into PE if you're not really loading the engine for it? it's a waste of fuel and it costs you low throttle power.

I'd say pay more attention to the TPS section of PE vs RPM, and set the delay accordingly. Personally I'd rather delay it under 2000 rpm, unless a very specific and demanding throttle percentage is met, requiring over 85% load.

you need to play around with the PE TPS engagement settings for your applications, with turbo cars they may spool very quicky at higher rpm with little throttle

Exactly, that's what I was referring to earlier.
