i may get flamed , but i was reading through alot of my fathers pontiac magazines, and i couldnt help but to think that pontiac could have really controlled the market.....ONLY IF they designed the body of the car better. the engine, drivetrain etc.. is very impressive however it wasnt enough to get them to sell as good as it should.. i know (wouldve, couldve, shouldve) its really too late now, but if they would have given it a more distictive appearance (ala anything remotely close to 65-69 gto;s as far as exterior styling) it wouldve been hard to knock gm from the top. NOW dont get me wrong, it is a very nice car, but i just felt like they rushed the car into production and just put gto labels on it just to get a quick buck off them. hopefully when they resurface in 08-09 we will get a better result.
and for people that have them please dont feel like this is an insult in anyway, gm should have been wise when they decided to use this valuable namesake thats all.

retro styling sucks.
leave the past alone you corspe rapers.

Pontiac didn't design it. Holden did.
^^^^^^i know about the whole holden /gm agreement but still .........cmon, they still couldve came up with a better design

your not understanding something..... Holden sold that car in Australia as the Monaro. GM basicly had an agreement with them to sell it over here, rebadged as a GTO. There was never any designing of the GTO. All it is is a rebadged Holden Monaro.

that makes it even gayer..
it was rushed in a way. as there was no longer a firebird, or any true sports car available from pontiac, they needed anything they could get to satisfy customers. and while the styling really isnt there, who cares, look at the stats. on the other hand chevy didnt have to worry as they still had the corvette.
Don't steal, the government doesn't like competition
Drive one, and when everyone stares at you and wonders what kind of car you are driving, you will understand...

Sure maybe the car was rushed a little, maybe they could have added a sunroof and some other options; but as a whole the car is great IMO. If i could afford one, i'd buy it.
As for the people who might say its "too plain looking", thats what the GTO was all about. Plain looking car, lots of power.
And lastly, retro is a horrible idea. MAYBE some retro hints like tail lights, rims, badges... but basically bringing an old car back, just @!#$ty IMO. Sure 95% of the population might think it looks great, sure it might sell like crazy, but if the designers had any skills, they could have done something new and had it sell just as good IMO.

Nope, it means the car was actually done right. The GTO is respectable, reliable, and fun to drive (maybe because American's didn't design it?). The only disappointment is the 34,000 price tag.

or maybe you could think of it this way, they took a car that was NEVER ment to be or designed to be one of the best cars of its time, but put its name on it, that is @!#$ gay.

true but they did it. and thats how any auto maker makes money. slap a good name on it and try to sell it.
but i think they did a good job. alittle restyling would of been nice but it came out to be a nice looking car.

hhhmmm
what was the orginal GTO based after?
-Borsty
The simple fact is they could have sold like hotcakes if the exterior styling didn't remind everybody of a grandam and wasn't so bland. If it didn't weight so much and cost alot that would be cool too. Leave it to GM to be uncompetitive in the market thou..

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^EXACTLY^^^^^^^^^^^ i never said i didnt like the car , in fact its a great looking car,BUT it couldve been soooo much better, as far as a total package.

even though it has the badge.....still you cant even classify it anywhere with its heritage. as far as styling...and for anyone that know anything about gto history. take the 74 gto (which was its last year) and which also had its poorest selling year.and lack of horepwer.....i would still place ahead of its present sibling............................oh and by the way my father has a 1969 gto (judge) so i know my facts on this.

wasn't the original GTO based on a 4 Door Family Sedan......the modern GTO is based on a 4 Door Family Sedan, they just changed them both (new and old) to coupes, and put a big engine in it. All of sudden you have a muscle/sports car. Seems to me that they were just sticking with tradition.
Get a clue
The dealeship where I bought mine can't keep them on the lot
They are selling fast, even with the new 06 coming out
The salesen I got mine from has since sold 5 of them himself since I bought mine July 31st
OH yeah, I like not turning my head and seeing a GTO everywhere anyways like you see the POS 05 PusStangs, like the GT I waxed yesterday
................Which car will hit 400 whp first???................
Just wondering... have you ever seen one in real life? up close??? everyone that comes up to my car. .. which as other GTO owners on here will tell you is ALOT tells me how much they love the car in real life. I also get tons of people at lights talking to me..
Retro sucks. . I mean what next for the mustang ?? the mustang II.. . that was a great car.. *blah..

Next year, i will hope to obtain one. Used
I think GM should've kept well enough alone and just brought over the monaro badaged as a Pontiac GTO instead of screwing up what was a great car by "Pontiac-izing" it into what is the current GTO.
There is no denying the underpinnings of the GTO but the styling leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

If by "Pontiac-izing", you mean putting their trademark 2 grille front end on it, then yes you have a point. Other than that, the car is basically the same as the Monaro.
I agree with bradiscool, though. I thought they were also bland and boring when I first saw other people driving them on the road. But when I went to the stealership to actually check them out, I was very impressed. Then after driving it, I was sold.
But I'm not going to argue anymore... I'm biased

That is the only thing I don't care for on the GTO, but I didn't buy it to keep it stock
I'll be ordering me a nice HSV front here soon, and maybe some HSV wheels
