With surging gasoline prices could limit the prospects of a new line of General Motors full-size light trucks and sport-utility vehicles, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing GM executives speaking before Wall Street analysts.
And as for the future, "I think it is going to continue to be a tough, challenging market for us, but in 2006 the volume and sales] mix should start to move in a positive direction," Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said.
However, Wagoner and other GM executives were optimistic about the prospects of a new range of full-size pickup trucks and SUVs, known as the GMT-900 series, which will be launched early next year.
GM also said it will cut the number of vehicle models and shift to strengthen Chevrolet and its luxury brands.
In addition, GM plans continued aggressive cost-cutting efforts, such as plant closings, a continued reduction of workers through attrition, and weeding out "underperforming" suppliers that have failed to deliver parts to GM at competitive prices, the story said.
Did GM juusst starting to seeing the light on this issue?

I think even the Execs are having trouble paying for gas now.

gee its takes us getting raped , for them to realize they are making to many trucks
i know our gas prices are still better than ALOT of places
i had some lady give me the finger this morning cause she didnt pass the car infor of her quick enough , so i passed both of them and because i stoped her from passing she got pissed , and all she woulda had to do was USE THE DAM GAS PEDDLE
nothing like GM always being a day late and several dollars short
I love it here in Southern California....all the morons that bought big trucks and hummers all strictly drive the speed limit....because they can't afford the gas. It especially irritates me when i get stuck behind them. I got places to go, if you can't afford the gas for your fuel pig...then stay home I say.

well there coming out with a few hybrid suv's right???
soo who knows, they better work on gas millage across the whole line
yeah but hybrids save no money... for the amount that they cost it doesnt make much sense to buy a hybrid. unless gm is changing that in their new line?
Check out my build thread!

Not to mention most hybrid models foreign or domestic are typically 2 to 3 grand more in cost. And unless u do mostly in town or non highway thats where those hybrids are supposed to be the most fuel effecient.

Sure I have and still do, but I recognize the right of others to drive the speed limit. I don't bitch about getting stuck behind them. If he wants to get somewhere quicker, then he should leave earlier.
You mean the fact that gas now costs in the $4.00 a gallon range and that these monsters have what 40 gallon tanks people are looking at a bill of $160.00 to fill these things and they only get 12 mpg on the highway and G.M.'s just figuring out there may be a problem. Idiots, Complete idiots.

???
gas just now started costing that much
so it wasn't a problem until now(past few months)
until recently @!#$ gas was 199
and a year before that 135ish
/\ /\ /\ and since about 2 months ago when gas started to climb my dealership can't move one of these beasts despite the employee discount stuff. And there only gonna get worse.

yea, started but 2.00 is a bit less than 2.99
Yup true and sales were dying then and there tanking now. Ask any dealership they'll tell you the same thing. Ok maybe not in so many words but they will.
