Start test driving, buddy....

I'm a sucker for turbocharged engines, though, so I would probably pick either the SRT-4 or WRX.

I have driven each of those and the RSX-S, and they are all nice cars... tough choice.

That's a very wide range of cars. The Cobalt SS and the 350z aren't even close to the same league. How much do you wanna spend?

MUSTANG: I see people trading in the new mustangs iwth the "this thing sucked" mentallity.

350Z: Nice car, very high insurance though. It would be cheaper for me to insure a 2003 Corvette..

RSX S: Slow. Why o why would you think of this one?

Solstice: The joy of new "bling" for a little while. New 2.4 Eco, probably holds pretty good boost.

G6: I don't know jack about these...

Chevy Cobalt: See Solstice, minus the engine info.

WRX: Nice quick little cars, always want one and still do.

SRT4: not to expensive(for me 23 yo) on insurance. Can pick a 2004 with 36k mileage for around $14,000.

New Eclipse: IMO, ugly.

If you care about finances, most bang for the buck, etc, go with a used SRT4.

i know its a wide range of cars... but they all come to about the same price if i try... So far ive driven the wrx and sat in the 350. The wrx i drove tho was an auto. Still fast tho and i liked it alot. The 350 in my opinion felt clunky when i closed the doors and i didnt like the layout of the center consol. Anyone else got an ideas?

The only good thing about the SRT-4 is the engine. Its fast, wonderful. Other than that, the car blows. Complete with its fruit roll-up interior and crank rear windows. If bang for the buck speed is your plan, this is probably the best bet right now. Expect high insurance though.

Obviously i am probably slightly biased, but you should check out the Subaru Leg GT. You can certainly get an 05 in that range and its in the same group as all those cars for speed in the dry, in the wet / snow you'll be running circles around most of them. Add another $600 for some engine management and you are just about at 300 / 300 at the crank, in otherwords very mod friendly. Much more upscale than the wrx. Not to mention much less insurance. I was never too into the interior in the rex's. Insurane is a big thing to consider as well though. Just for comparison, a new wrx with insurance was more expensive monthly than the faster GT with insurance. In terms of bang for the buck in its class it is certainly at the top of the list. I love mine and would recomend it to anyone. .

Saturn SKY. Wait for that to come out, its going to KILL the solsitce. But from the cars you have named...id go with the 350.

Stang-boo unless its a cobra
G6- Much better cars for the money
RSX -I really like those - and so does the aftermarket
Cobalt SS- You know i like them
SRT-4 - Someone already covered htat...all its go for is power.
WRX- Unless STi, i wouldnt even bother.
Eclispe - imo ugly
350Z- My choice

Have you considered a 99 or 00 vette? For the money you cant beat it. Yes insurance will be high, but like said about the 350's insurance is high.

GTO
right now the have the everyone get the gmemployee discount

Re: Im gettin a new ride...

I did read about the discounts, but somehow i find it hard to believe you will get that on the new GTO or the vette for that matter either. There is definetly going to be exceptions to that.

You know if you get a car before you sign your contract for the AF you can lower your credit interest to 7% or something (its really low) once you sign your contract. Just a heads up.

My opinion is 350z

for credit cards or car loan? for credit cards a locked 7% isn't bad, but for a car loan, thats pretty high.

Pretty simple one
From the looks of it, you want performance so we knock off the wrong wheel drive cars (FWD) from your list and leave the RWD or AWD for the obvious reasons.

2005 Ford Mustang GT
Subaru Impreza WRX
Pontiac Solstice
Nissan 350Z

I would go from here, since performance you are after with a $25K price range. Clear choice is the 2005 Mustang GT. Now if want better handling, look at the 350Z. Personally I would suggest the GTO or STI but those toys are over $25K.

i like the legacy 2.5 gt turbo as well. i drove one along with the wrx and srt4. all are nice cars but if you are looking for performance and luxury, the 2.5 gt would get my nod. i'd suggest test driving one.

350's are nice though too. i've only sat in one though...

Re: Im gettin a new ride...

I would highly suggest that you don't get a vehicle until you get to your first duty station for a couple of reasons.
1.) I'm going to assume you're getting a rather large signing bonus, and will be using that to help pay for the vehicle, if that is the case you more then likely won't get the money until you get to your first duty station, I know that's how it worked for me and I only got a $3000 bonus, and the bonus is more then likely gonna be taxed which means that you won't be getting the entire bonus.
2.) You don't know what your pay is going to be like for a little while after you get out of Boot Camp, you could very easily think you can afford this vehicle now, but when you get to your duty station, and get all your bills figured out you can't afford it at all. You don't make a lot of money in the military, I'm an E-4 with 3 years in and only make $1400 a month after taxes, for an E-1 or E-2 it's gonna be less then $1000 a month.

Trust me I was in the same situation last year when I went to buy my truck, I couldn't get the truck that I really wanted because I wouldn't have been able to afford to put gas in the tank every week, and that was with 2 years in. I had to get something a little less expensive, while I absolutely love my truck I'd much rather have bought a 2004 4Runner or Tundra. You have to seriously sit down and figure out how much you can afford to spend on the vehicle. If you are getting a signing bonus I suggest you just take the signing bonus and put it into a savings account and don't touch it until you get out of the Air Force, I have heard too many stories about Marines getting out and not having anything set up for when they get out and not having any savings and end up either jobless or homeless, or both.

That's just my opinion, but I've been around for a little while and have seen and been through all of this, but take it as you will, it's your money, do with it as you wish.

Im in the air force and Ive seen many a new guy show up with a cars they cant afford seen evos and cobras and they cant afford them your not gonna make much when u get in and i dont know if your going into maintenance but there ain't any good bonus for them. i say keep your sunfire mod it to your wildest dreams then later once you make rank past e-4 then look into a new car. but thats just me do what you want though

Both, 7% is not bad for a young person without a co-signer. I bet 3/4 of the people on this site wish they had 7% interest on their vehicle.

I agree with Saint. Wait, it seems like you would save a butt load of money in BMT. When in reality you make @!#$ pay while in basic and there is always stuff you are buying.
