1999-2002 Protege questions
Sunday, May 29, 2005 12:04 PM
Does anyone here know much about these cars? I'm looking to buy one in the next year or so. But i was doing some lot searching and came across something weird.

i thought the 1999+ models alll had a 2.0L DOHC 130hp engine. but apparently they have a dohc 1.6L or a 1.8L with 122hp........ ...... i'm usually pretty up on this stuff.

Anyone have some details here or some specs they can pass along?

I had a friend who drives one. She absolutely loved it. Said the only thing she would trade it for was another newer one.

I dont know about performance though. That never mattered to her.

^^ yep performance doesnt matter to me, as long as its not a total turd. As long as its about as good as my 2.2 5 speed cav was, then whatever. just want a nice car.

my buddy has one and its a great little car! great on gas and nothing really has gone wrong with it. he got it as a hand me down from his folks who bought it new in 2000, and he loves it. his has the 1.8 in it and its not a "quick" car by any means, but it serves its purpose quite well

cool, thanks guys. I'll be keeping my eyes open.

so from what i have read its a 1.6L 105hp in the DX + LX
and a 1.8 122HP in the ES

does anyone know if the later model years came with the 2.0?

I think so, but they are pretty slow, I raced a Protege in my 3spd 2.2l and absolutly raped it somehow. Good cars though.
