my fiance has a 1993 dodge spirit and about a week ago it stopped running. it kinda sounds like its not getting any fuel to the engine, but the fuel pump was replaced about 1.5 yrs ago. today when i tried it it would start as long as i was pressing the gas pedal, but as soon as i would let off it would die on me. i dont have any idea on what is wrong, i am not really good with engines, and we really cant afford a major fix. if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

this happened with my blazer try the egr valve carbon might be stuck in there leaving it open ..... not sure if it is but maybe
Change the fuel filter. That is the first thing I would do based on ur symptoms. Now if no change after that could be a bad injector assumming it is fi.Start simple.
So once you get it to start by pressing the gas pedal, what happens when you let off the gas? does it run fine or just die outright? If it dies outright I would start by checking the throttlebody for carbon buildup (especially if its a TBI model), if its dirty clean it out. If it was a fuel pump problem its unlikely that you could get the car to start by pressing the throttle- that seems to indiciate you have either a carboned-up throttle body, or the IAC passage is plugged, or the IAC valve is not working (if those cars even had IAC valves, I really don't remember... only saw a few of the k-cars in my time at dodge). Does it seem to run fairly normally when you are pressing the throttle? As in, no missing, chugging, or rough running?
