For real....I've wanted one since before I was even in college and I'm just now getting to the point where I am actually considering spending that much on a car realistically. If you can afford it, by all means go for it, just saying that's a lot of dough for an 18-19 year old!

If you have 25k go with the R32, that car is so sexy. God do I wish I could afford one of those

The GTI's are cheap you can get a used one for around 17k with very low miles. I'm currently looking for one for my little bro except he wants to 05+ model. Check out vwvortex.com to get more info on them.

If i had 25K to piss away.....

Pay off school loans and keep my j-body till it rusts and falls apart. I hate owning people money and my J is reliable, cheap to fix and Christ i know every single inch of the damn car..

Once i'm ontop i'd think about wasting stupid money on a car like that. I've always wanted one myself, but cannot justify it in the present u.s. economy status. I'd rather be on top oppose to burried under a car loan for 25k.

Might want to re-think yourself bud. If your just trying to get a nicer car to making people think higher of your "status", its not worth it. I have a good buddy who dropped 42k on an Inifiti G35 and its gotten him no where but further in debt, and no ass in which he thought it was going to get him. Just some food for thought.

Your friend bought a car to get ass. That makes him a complete moron, and I say he deserves the debt it has caused him. lmao.

In your price range, I would say STi as well. As far as cost to maintain I would definitely NOT go with something german. I LOVE Audi's, don't completely hate BMW's, and like a few VW's. But when they break, it isn't cheap.

What all are you looking for out of the car? Gas mileage? power? aftermarket support? I mean, for 25K or less, there are plenty of options in different types of vehicles. If you are looking into a turbo 4 cyl with some decent aftermarket support, I think an STi or WRX could be a good place to look. I don't know much about the Evo's reliability, and I hate their looks, but if you like those, that is another option. I don't think a GTI or R32 is a bad idea, they are decent little cars and look well enough. I just don't think someone concerned with repair costs should be looking into german cars.

ya..i mean i just thought about repairs just as like a brain storm..like main of us i like to think of the whole spectrum...i drive a sunbird now so i mean anything is an upgrade as far as power...id love a 5 or 6 spd...i want power, some quick, and good handling. yes gas millage is a small interest (i know it may sound stubborn) but I dont get very good mileage now so im not to worried...and yes i would love aftermarket support,...considering theres very little for my bird so...
Aftermarket Support
Power
Handling
Reliability
Just to know, repair ratio ( how often do things go wrong, and is it a huge cost to fix, like you said, german vs. japaneese, or american cars which repairs would be cheaper)
Also Insurance cost, im 19 and male so im @!#$ out of luck but i want something that wont make me go insurance broke

I would love an STI, eh i love evos but man ppl have them around here, and surprisingly a few my age so they're getting a bad wrap...I mean im very open to any ideas, and i wont buy until April/May or so...so i have time but you have all had great input and i turn to you' all again for some insight

I'd say go for the R32, I have a buddy who is love with his. And VW's handel crazy nice.

But I would be careful like other said, the economy sucks ass. But if your set then go for it man and good luck.

Personally I would buy a decent car for 7-8 grand, bank some in a Savings, and invest some in the stock market since it's almost dead, then make some cash on the rebound. Thats just me though.

ya i hear ya..i mean no doubt if i can find a car, with decent miles, power and looks good w/o rust etc id would spend 7-8k its just in NY, especailly Upstate its hard to cuz the weather conditiosn reek havict on cars

cheapest to maintain and repair will be an american car... the best of ANYTHING except cost, it will be foreign lol. I would assume this is a year round daily driver, otherwise I would suggest a 95-02 Mustang Cobra, C5 Vette, or TransAM/Z28/SS...

BUT since you sound like a decent mix of good handling, somewhat quick, and decent gas mileage, it sounds like some for of 4banger is going to be the best bet. I am definitely not knocking all the people swinging on the nuts of the overpriced compaired to performance(when bought brand new), R32... but just giving my opinion on what else to look into.

What I would look at that I found in your area:

The only thing with the S4 is, ask if the timing chains have been done already. Those are expensive, and a PITA, to change.

Other then that, I love B6 S4's
