You know all the details of the accident and every parameter the crash sensors and what not need to see to deploy the bags? I didn't think so. I've seen a few accidents that looked he bags should have deployed and didn't. Its not as simple as there's a crash blow off the bags. In newer cars if the seat belt is buckled effects what the car will do, the weight in the seat affects what the car will do, the amount of tension on the belt buckle if it is buckled. New VW's use pressure sensors inside the doors for there crash sensors, if someone takes part of the door apart and doesn't put it back together correctly, leaves a grommet out or something it can cause the sensors to not work properly. The air bag systems nowdays even know the direction the steering wheel is facing.

You don't know anything about what happened other then there's a smashed up Hyundai. You don't know how it happened, you don't know what happened, you don't know if the car was tampered with, you don't know if it had an airbag fault to begin with that they hadn't gotten around to bringing it in for, you don't know what sensors reacted to the crash or the very very very specific parameters that the air bag control module needs to see to deem it necessary to deploy the bags and if so with how much force.

I'm not trying to defend Hyundai, I'm saying you don't have a clue, stop pretending you do. It very well may be a problem with the car itself but at this point nobody knows or can prove that.

and what does GM stand for?
Greatly Mismanaged?
Generally Mangled?
Grossly Made?
Gargantuan Mess?
should i go on?

Hyundai has better quality than GM. Period. KIA even has generally better quality in some of their cars. Either way, who is needing a bail out to stay afloat and who is doing well and releasing their first RWD performance coupe that people are actually looking forward to?

There are conditions in which the airbags do not deploy. Notice the steering wheel bend location? The occupant was unbelted. The crash was also not head on. Unbelted occupant moving likely toward the center console + airbag deployment will not make the situation any better.

I work at Takata's US R&D headquarters dealing with airbags... I'll quote my co-worker who posted this on CarScoop:
Quote:

Also, with the angle crash appears to have occurred, it's right in between a side and a frontal crash. It's likely not that the airbags failed to go of -- the computer that collects the data and determines if it is a good course of action probably decided a "no-deploy" was the best case.

Airbags help, for sure, but can sometimes do more harm than good. If you're incorrectly seated, unbelted, etc., they can induce injuries you may otherwise have not sustained. That's why you should always wear your seatbelt! Airbags work with seatbelts as a system for the maximum safety effects.

And finally, this is KOREA we're talking about. They're safety standards don't exactly match ours here in the States. BUT in order for Hyundai to sell here in the US, they have to meet all federal safety standards -- which have recently become even more stringent. And then you have the IIHS tests, which all manufacturers want to do well on for publicity's sake.
