Im bored so i thought i would "test" the JBO online diagnostic service. Here is a problem that i encountered with my brothers 96' Saturn SL 4 door(i never can tell the models of saturn). Its a 5-speed with the 1.8????? 1.9???? Im not sure. Well here was the problem: the car would not start when facing uphill. It would start every other time but just not uphill. There were no other symptoms, just the no start. This problem has been fixed(by me) and has not caused any more trouble. I'll let u guys try to figure it out before i post what was done to fix it. Have Fun!!

Just FYI:
it's a 1.9L
SC = Sport Coupe
SL = Sedan
SW = station Wagon
it could be either a s*1 or an s*2, both are 1.9L
1 would be SOHC
2 would be DOHC
it'll say on the top of the motor if it's a DOHC - Twin Cam
anyways...
i have no idea what it could be.
no, I meant... was my answer warm or cold. lol

I cant diagnose this problem "well" because i dont have all the info i would ask for.
But i would have to say the pickup on the pump is clogged, pump is shot, OR the clutch safety switch... because you didnt know anything else about the car but you HAD to mention it was a 5 speed

Not enough information to even begin.
Since the usual JBO user cannot distinguish between things like "will not fire" and "will not crank" when using the description "does not start", no one could go anywhere from here.
"Here" being the lack of info provided.
Also the premise of your test is BS.
You are trying to prove that you are smarter than others by comparing your ability to diagnose an actual car that your could experiment on to the ability of others to to guess what "won't start" means and not allowing anyone to get info you discovered along the way.

Thank you protomec for flaming me. I was beginning to feel like i wasnt part of JBO.
Im not trying to be smarter than anyone. I was just bored and i thought i would share an unique problem that i encountered.
U guys want more info.
Ok, i'll try to remember it all sense it was a while ago when it happened. The oreantaion of the car was important, but fuel wasnt a problem. I forget if it would attempt to crank(starter clicking) or if it was just dead. It acted like the battery was dead, but only when facing uphill. Downhill, and on level ground it was fine, no problem. Thats all i have.

Hmm... what happens when the car is up side down?

In keeping with the spirit of the replies to this post...
My fix would be to take it out of gear, release the parking brake, and watch it crash in a spectacular fashion at the bottom of the hill. I would then instruct my friend to go buy a new car.

Was the headlight fluid low? I know from experience that is a MAJOR problem on saturns.
What type of battery? The battery is low on fluid?
I do like Dave's solution though...

I never tested the battery but my theory on what was wrong was: Low fluid
I was thinking that when the car faced uphill the fluid moved away from the termanials(they were also facing uphill). This wouldnt allow the starter to draw from the battery. I never tested my theory, but we did change the battery and it solved the problem.
I like dave's solution too, but what car to get after that?
I know you guys done care, but i got no posts left for the year. I gotta go premium.
