Alright people, i've come to a small crossroads in my car buying endeavors.... I finally got my identity theft problem cleared up and it made my credit score skyrocket so i should be free and clear to get another car. Im looking to trade my auto z24 if necessary to drop the price a bit and im trying to stay in the sub 15k range. im lookin at a couple cars and i want u guys suggestions on them.
07-pontiac g5 GT 5spd-i can get one for under 13.9k.. with bolt ons and a tune i can get it to between 200-210whp.
06-07 cobalt ss 2.4 5spd- 14k-15k generally cost a bit more than the g5s but same mods and exterior basically. i just prefer the pontiac.
02-04.5 volkswagen jetta 10k-18k.. i love these cars.i prefer the gli 6spd but those are much higher in price but they need no exterior mods and look beautiful stock.. bolt ons and a chip on it and its pretty quick..i would keep it that way for about a yr then rebuild for big boost later on.
02-06 volkswagen gti 10-16k newer ones are cheaper than some older jettas and they take the same mods and i could swap a jetta front end to satisfy my jetta craving.
cobalt ss/sc ive seen them between 14-17k so they may or may not be in my range, just have to find another good deal. really my last choice because i have my turbo z as my project and itll be alot cheaper to mod imo and all it needs now is to be rebuilt. ss/sc i would probably get a stage II with bolt ons and be happy with that as my daily
well these are my choices, bottom line is i want a newer car cuz im tired of my 00z as my daily and i want something that can be quick and fun to drive and also look good... im leaning more towards the g5 because of this...
Its hard to say which one is better, Im fan all of those cars.. only you will know what you really want.
Good luck!
i once wanted a GLI, they are such great looking cars
where is ryan, he'll come come tell you why not to buy one, and if i remember there were very good reasons
Personnal choices....I will never touch a VW car EVER, so I would take a s/c Cobalt.

Darkstars right? im aware of that. but ive owned a jetta before.. took that thing to 200K+ with no problems so im not trippin... as long as its got a warranty on it i dont mind.
If you can get the VW w/ a warrenty..... maybe. The early 2000-2003 models had some interesting electrical issues, but yea.... they can be made pretty nice looking w/ little to no aftermarket parts (drop, GLI lip, and rims).... As for motor choices, either get the 1.8t, or 24v VR6.... the 2.0 or 12v VR6's are worthless IMO....
Colbalt SS is pretty nice.... ive been looking into those as well. That G5 to me doesnt look too good though....
But.... its all up to you man.

lol g5 is basically a cobalt with pontiac badging.. the balt has that same kit also..
Believe me if the filters work all you will see is a bunch of symbols when he talks about VW's haha
yea on clubcav he basically demolished the vw name.. it was funny
Styling and performance I say VW all the way. Its just the damn reliability on them. Well, lack of it I should say. That is a sexy looking car.
My vote, SS S/C
get a VW Jetta TDI. made in Germany, not Mexico like most other jetta's. = better reliability
you can still mod it, and you've got all the torque you could ever want, and good MPG.
and they look nice
id go with either the VW or the SS/SC
because oost is nice lol
seriously, my ex has a 02 GTI and i love the hell out of it...never had any real problems (normal wear and tear for a car with 100k on the ckock) and they can be mand pretty damn quick with a REVO tune and some little stuff....i would recomment VW all day and twice on sunday.....if you do go this rout....stick with the OEM look....
buuuuut....i also love the SS/SC...i mean come on...a supercharged ECO from the factory with a warrenty....how can u beat that?
those are my suggestions
i will never touch a VW my sister has an 03 jetta. nothing but headaches. the most recent the window fell off the track into the door. yeah it was slush out and she parks on the street. no trash bag either. i mean the thing only has 68,000 on the clock. Wtf i want to go tell her to go @!#$ herself becuase the amount of crap you have to do to get to the window to try to put it back in. 2 months ago she had a 1000 dollar mechanic bill becuase a wheel bearing took out a few things when it went bad.
I told her to trade it in and that if she breaks anything else i will not be out at midnight on a week night fixing it.
lol.
the window falling in the door is a common problem.
i still stand that it's a mexico only problem, and TDI, IIRC, is made in Germany. Correct me if i'm wrong.
my fiance is trying to sell her VW passat... its either a 2000 or 01. its already boosted (1.8 turbo engine) automatic BUT with triptronic trans (sooo fun). just turned over 74k and is in real good shape! i wish she was interested in modding it, but i guess thats a good thing that way she can calm me down and i wont blow all my money on my next car!! pm me if interested.
u guys got some pretty good points with the vw and the ss/sc... im not looking to get a tdi at all, those typically are higher priced, and the bmw is in my range but i dont want a high mileage car. im lookin for sub25k on deltas and >50k on the jettas
well i decided on an 07 g5 gt... im hopin to get it soon... its only 13.9k w/2k on the clock... thats crazy considering off the lot an 07 is around 24K+ thats similar...
Good choice with the G5 GT. I was at a car dealer the other day and was looking at them. I think they look better than the Cobalt. To me, the Pontiac versions of GM cars always look better. The Trans Am's always looked better than the Camaros and the G5's look better than the Cobalts.
98 Trans Am
6.0, L92 heads, LS3 intake, TSP 231/236 cam, and much more
have you considered a wrx?? 02-03's go around here for 10-12k. probably could even get into an 04-05 for 14-15k.
227hp stock, subaru dependability, awd. only real issue is the 5spd synchros if you abuse the car...
i personally do not like wrx's and the ones for that price normally have 60K+miles and most of the trannies are ready to go on em... i dont wanna have to worry about maintenance for awhile, and i figure with a 2.4 eco and 2k on the car for 13K or less i cant lose
I use to own a GLI, thank god a dumbass blonde ran a red light and t-boned me. Dont get me wrong, they are beautiful and the solid black interior is sexy as anything, but I just couldn't really stand the thing. The interior paint chips off everything!!! Had a friend with a passat and her's does the same exact thing.
Anything from the dealer is laughable; Way Way! overpriced(70$ for simple vacuum hoses, comeon). The 1.8T has some fairly common problems with the coils blowing out. Blew 2 the first two weeks I owned the thing without beating on it really.(only cost about 60$ each though, one of the only decently priced items for the car)\
Heavy as hell,
bad performance(imo) with stock turbo
very fickle with mods
gas is even kinda laughable with how small of an engine it has. I get better mileage in my ld9
I bought this car loving it, but after about 4 months and the wreck I was happen to have it gone.
If you know what a maven is, then you might want to take their advice and "stay away from german made vehicles" as they say. Very difficult to deal with at the dealership and even the car itself in your own driveway.
i have a 2007 g5 gt with the 5 speed tranny i love the car so much. its got 14k on it and its perfect. the power that the 2.4eco has is crazy def a fun little car to drive. you can throw that car into a corner and it hold really well for stock.
Out of the ones you mentioned I would got with the Volkswagen gti, but I think for that amount of money I would get something else. I don't know what you want in a car but I would with something RWD or AWD with a manual transmission and v6 or turbo. Again, you may be looking at other features that I'm less concerned with. I got a 91 MR2 for $5k when I got tired of the cavalier, best move I've ever made.
