Well I am looking to buy a nice sport SUV and its down to these two...
I know the SRT-8 is about .5 seconds quicker in the 1/4 mile but other than that for any one who has one of these fine SUV's what do you think about it?
I want the good and bad from them... i have my own personal views on them but i have never really driven either of them (other then test drives) but that only means so much.. i want some one who has actually bought one and put some actual miles on it to let me know what they think about them...
Which ever i get i only plan to do
- Supercharger
- intake and full headers/exhaust
- lower slightly (about 2")
- and put some 22" wheels on for summer
other than that its going to be my daily driver for the winter and for road trips

All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
I know that there is a guy named, "chris" that has a SS. If you want to go all out, I'd go with the SRT 8. Since 50k is pretty much your price range. You might be able to find a used Cayenne Turbo for that amount
Sorry, I don't have any reviews on either, try going here ...
Jeep SRT8
Trailblazer SS
Porsche Cayenne Turbo
hope that helps,
dan
thanks.. ill take a look at thoughs sites...

i personally like both but give the edge to the srt-8 i like the styling a little more both are fast especially if you are wanting to s/c either one
I know there is a supercharger made for the trailblazer ss. I have seen a supercharged one run a 13.00 with three guys in it at the track. In the end I would consider price and which you just like the interior and exterior style of better.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
Well as far as the two go .. i like the exterior of the SRT8 better.. but i like the interior of the SS ... but in the respect im kinda leaning towards the SRT-8... they are pretty well even in price when going to a 2006 or 2008... and im just reading on road and track right now that the entire drivetrain of the SRT-8 is much better then that of the SS...
it will be hard though as me/my family has always been about the GMs... every single car or suv we have ever had has been GM...

the tb/ss you can tune easy
all chryslers are a bitch to tune

yea thats true... we got the 2 LS engines in the family both pretty highly tuned and i know there are lots of parts out there for them...
But every time i look at the SRT8 i fall in love more and more with the looks of it... it just looks like its purpose built and like i said above the drive train is much stronger and can take more abuse from every thing i have read.
I am how ever putting a turbo kit on to my buddies 2004 Jeep TJ... and so i will see how tuning goes with that...

doesnt jeep offer the lifetime powertrain warranty on the srt-8 also? if they qualify that as within their lifetime powertrain, i would definetly get ahold of one of those.
the lifetime warranty for powertrain dosent include any srt models.
um doesnt the trailblazer SS all come supercharged already? i thought they did.

No, they come with an LS2.

yea just the LS2.. it would be nice if it came supercharged too.. but then id expect more then 405hp... the one thing i like about the SS is that you can easily swap in a LS7
which i have every thing from a LS7 except the block sitting in my basement so that would be easy to do, but its just again the body of the SS and the drive train are just not up to what they should be for a Sport SUV...

Well i cant say enough about my SS. I have a buddy with an SRT sweet truck as well. It all comes down to preference, and either way youll be grinning ear to ear when you step on the pedal. I thought of both when I was shopping, but there were acouple factors that helped me go with the SS. The biggest was being able to tow with it still, the jeep has a center exit exhaust so no towing(but i have seen kits that bolt up somewhere underneath the jeep and give a tow hitch, dont know how well Id trust that tho.)
The aftermarket for the TBSS is amazing right now, everything you can imagine is out there. The jeep is slowly getting there but being that its a newer engine it will take time. The LS2 has so much aftermarket support its ridiculous. Superchargers from multiple companies, exhausts headers from every major company and so on. And like mentioned before tuning is a plus. I had mine done by Vector Motorsports and WOW! What a difference. So far i added the tune, a VMS intake, 90mm Lingenfelter Throttle body, and a Corsa Exhaust. It rips. I just bought a house, but if some money comes my way Id love to cam it and get a Supercharger on it. I heard the srt handles corners better but the tbss drives a lot smoother.
Trailvoy.com is a great site for the tbss. and cherokeesrt8.com is good for the srt.
About the drivetrain, to be honest, I beat the piss out of mine and its still running strong. Im nearing 25,000 miles.
In my opinion since you want to do power adders plus suspension and its going to be a daily driver, go with the TBSS. I got the the AWD model and its a beast in the snow. I was suprised how well it did, and its even more fun when you turn the traction off! haha.

I am curious to hear how that turns out. Was this a piece together kit or did you buy one from one of the few manufacturers out there?
As to the topic, I would prefer the SRT-8 over the SS, but that is just a biased opinion.
Have a good one,
Justin
I've seen the local tbss club at the track just damnones with superchargers one had an ls7 that i confirmed. one was running drag radials on all fours runnin 11's

405HP is pushing it too...for 2008 they dropped it to 390. It is 395 for 2006 and 2007.
My pops just picked up a 2007 TBSS and I love it. The ride is awesome, handles like a car, and it is just endless power. Check out Trailblazer SS for some more information. Also, for the 2008's, they got rid of the chrome door handles for the interior...nothing major, just ascetics.
Mmm, and once I graduate next year...it's all mine!
I'd have to say TBSS, mainly brand loyalty and the fact that the SRT-8 really doesn't have enough on it to sway that.
The trailblazer ss LS2 has a different intake manifold because of hood clearance, that is why there is a horsepower difference from the corvette LS2.
That AZPS TBSS for sale up there is crazy:
Kenne Bell Charger
Heres some others:
Magnacharger Supercharged
And my favorite TBSS Video:

I'd do the TBSS but thast because I'm partial. but you do have to admit that the SRT-8 are pretty sweet.
