Congratulations to them!
This will get shunned to the backburner of the auto indsutry. Whereas if the companies were reversed, it would be front page news on Yahoo!

That's becuase it's a Mazda. It's loosly based on the Mazda 626 chassis.

JD power surveys almost every car, this study did about 31,000. im not trying to downplay this study but Ford needs to keep quality up for more than 1 year in order to get back to where it was.

I don't see how this is big news. The report only contains data from vehicles that are 90 days old or less. I don't see how you can judge "quality" on a 90 day timetable. Good for them though...
Maybe "Ford: Initial quality equal to Toyota" sounds like a more realistic headline.

Really? I never knew that. I think of the Tribute as just a rebadged Escape. I had no idea they had their origins in the Mazda stables!
either way, everyone here says Ford is in bigger trouble than GM when i dont think they are
they may be on the same plane as GM or maybe even a little better off
Ford is headed in the right direction, and the CAFE standards will not be as much of a problem for them as it is for GM since there arent as many V8 vehicles in Ford's present or future

The study evaluated 2007 model cars and trucks from all full-line manufacturers and asked drivers to list any problems they had encountered during their first 90 days of ownership.
LOL , anything can be good for 90 days
not to mention in the first 90 after the sale , isnt the best because the cars sitting on the lot for a extended time , can have battery issues , and part stolen or broken in them , and that would go into the reports and sway things off to 1 side , instead of actual quality issues
J.D.Power has a similar test called: Initial quality.
Some may say: "you can't tell to much on this type of test," but when I worked at Benz I remember seeing destroyed E55 trannies, radios that will not work or navigation systems that will lead you to the wrong places, V12s running on 6cyls for faulty DOD. The kicker was all were on cars with under 1000-3000 miles, overall this test can give you an (idea) how well the product is or could be.

^^^ I don't EVEN wanna know how much was paid for those vehicles.
Initial quality is a decent indicator of overall quality... my sister's J developed a wicked rattle and a door clunk after about 60 days on the road (she tends to beat the piss out of her cars, either I'm really good to mine, or she has awful luck, it's been the same with her GA SE, and her G5). So I can believe initial quality is great.
Oh, btw, Cadillac got JD Power best initial quality for about 3-4 years in a row (IIRC) for the CTS and SRX and not much was said, but when Honda got it for the Accord you couldn't see a commercial without hearing it (even for the Civic... go figure).
That is awesome for Ford. They really need all the good press they can get. Hope it continues for them.

Because they are hemorrhaging more money than GM?
They have no new or exiting products in development.
I would say Ford at the moment is way worse off than GM. There is a reason everyone says it too.

I've rented two Milans in the last two months or so, and I have to say that I couldn't find a thing wrong with them, except for power (LOL). they were both from Avis, and they were both the "Premier" edition. both had 4 cylinders, and couple that with any torque management Ford is putting into them, gave me a feeling of very little power.
however, it was an extremely comfortable ride, and the suspension definitely held up to the "spirited" driving I did while driving the car up and down mountain ranges here in AZ.
the interior was awesome, it was very quiet inside, and braking is very good. (the ABS was a little touchy though)
if they would have had a bit more power (I'll try to get a hold of the V6 version next time), they're awesome cars in my opinion.
(I'd actually like to find the two front seats out of a Milan to put in my Cav. they're VERY comfortable)

youd be foolish to think that ANY car company did not have any new products in development
and its foolish for them to not really generate excitement by revealing what they have in development
Ford is "hemorrhaging" money to restructure and be more efficient
I have seen more fusions on the road in the last 2-3 months than i have seen new accords, camrys, cobalts, impalas, g5's, g6's, and so on
if they can get more 500's on the road with the rename back to taurus, they will be well on their way to getting back to profit
the mustang is selling well (even with a bazillion variants)
they are not anywhere near in the clear, i know that, but they are better off than most people think
Right.
Allow me to refer you
here.
They have new prodcuts, just not anything thats seems to be a hit. The mustang is/was a huge hit and they are still in the hole. Its not just Ford america its ford everwhere.
At least I can say GMs worldwide manufacturing percentage has increased even if the American market is not doing as well.
I hope you are right about them being better off than people think. I just don't think they are in a better position than GM.
They def in a better position than Chysler who is about to be auctioned of if the price is right.

GM Daewoo is tearing it up.
The reasons Ford, GM and Chrysler are losing money have nothing to do with the vehicules they offer and everything to do with internal organization and efficiency. It was their problem years ago and it's still their problem now. They managed to ride other waves of loss simply by being so big, but now they can't seem to deal with it anymore due to a larger market bearing down on them.
They'd better figure something out soon because otherwise we'll all be driving really cool Chinese cars.
Wow that's great for Ford.
I've had my Mustang for almost 8 months and no mechanical problems...although I didn't expect any. My only problem with it is the excessive use of hard plastics inside the vehicle. I can't tell you how many times I've hit my right knee on edge of the center console getting in and feeling like I cracked my patella. Not the greatest feeling in the world, I'll tell ya.
Now I've read on other sites where people had had problems with leaks to the point where the SJB accumulated moisture and caused a shortage in the electronic components, including one guy who had to escalate his grief to corporate Ford and a mediary before they replaced his car under warranty. Others have experienced this same leak problem but have been able to get it repaired before it go too serious.
It makes me wonder however why the Shelby GT500 was chosen to be tested instead of a Mustang GT seeing how the Shelby GT500 is on a more of a limited run than a standard Mustang.
Like 97trd(???™) stated, anything can be good for 90 days...but I know those who had own Fords for less than 90 days who would argue with that statement.
Because the regular Mustang GT did not lead its segment?

that was conducted for Ford by the RDA Group, a market research firm based
why can't we get an un-biased quality report? Not saying that this report was conducted poorly, because i really don't know their methods, but the fact that Ford paid for it is suspect.
We should have something better.
www.drluc.ca
Just because its conducted for company A by company B does not mean its biased.
I do agree tho, that more studies should be done.

actually it is a rule of thumb and proven through example that if a article is paid for by company A and company A has stake in the article saying certain things, the article WILL say those certain things company A wants it to say. They dont blatantly lie but will purposely leave out contrary facts and stats fudge numbers etc...

LMAO that's from the movie "Fight Club"
And I think Ford did that with the whole Firestone debate,or tried for a while.
