Alright, so I'm putting out the bat signal...
I'm looking for a muscle car that needs TLC that I can work into a nice ride. I'm trying to keep the initial investment on the car as low as possible so that I can spend the majority of my funds on motor / power adders...
If anyone knows of any up for sale, let me know. Preferably in the midwest area. Thanks for any help...
80's g-body cars FTW! They are very cheap and modifiable and used parts are abundant.
/\ get a 78-81 2dr malibu if possable
Older MK2 and 3 Jettas and Golfs can be pretty fun too....friend of mine is working on his MK3 now.

How much money do you have to buy with? I know of a few cars in the cincy area....
Are you looking for "muscle car" like 60's-70's or something newer like a g body, 3rd gen+ f body, 5.0, etc?
What exactly do you have in mind?
im also kinda in the same boat ive currently got a 72 pontiac ventura another form of x body like a nova 350/ th350 about 390hp try checking out cctol.com you can put in pretty much whatever you want. just on erecomendation if your wanting to bring this muscle car to shows get a 72 or under because and post 72 most shows will not let in good luck
right now he is looking between a 3rd gen camaro and a 3rd gen TA in the local area
An early 80's fox body Mustang would be a great way to go. They may have the look of a glorified Escort, but especially if you get a 5.0, they have GREAT performance potential. Plus, they're so common and popular, finding parts (especially cheap ones) is very easy.

Mustang=pony car. However the foxbody stang is easy to make a 10 seoncond car.
Id go w/ a 63-64chevy II nova.
Tiny cars and you can fit a nice size engine in it.
You might be able to pick on up on Ebay for a decent price.

Okay... You want something more of a muscle car project? How 'bout a
Dodge Dart like this? Smaller car, drop in a Hemi... You're gold.

how about a 92 GTA with a 99 LS1/T56...initial investment is a little more, but u are starting way further ahead. The Car is mint, only 65000km (about 40k miles...?) and 26500 miles on the drivtrain.
chevy nova
stang
muscle cars r the best
good luck

Mopar A bodies make great project cars. They're light and the slant six models can be had dirt cheap(will have to travel out of the rustbelt to get a rustfree one for a good price) I can find junkyard 440's all day long for a couple of hundred of bucks, not something you can do with a BBC.
If you wanna be different get an AMC. You can pick up a little rambler, gremlin, hornet, spirit, etc for cheap and drop a 401 in it. 401's are getting pricey though, but 360's are still pretty cheap. Car Craft Magazine is building up a pretty nice rambler now, you'd be surprised how light they are...
A 3rd gen f body would be cool, but it really depends what exactly you're trying to do? Just a driver with some power, drag car, autocross, etc. If you're looking to build something that's fast for cheap I'd stick with a carb IMO. A 383 would be nice in one or and ls1 swap if you had a lot of money to play with...
maybe a 1970 Monte Carlo.........ala Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift.I never saw those Monte's the same after I saw that one.I saw do a clone, all primered and everything.I'm pretty sure you could get a big block and manual trans. in those cars.

See sig...77 Camaro...I am selling it
I don't have the time to work on it anymore. I've had it over 15 years.
I'd do a 77 trans am! please don't do a 80's fox body mustang. it's like an American Honda Civic. There cheap, easy to make fast, and most of them are pieces of @!#$.

Exactly my point. And even if you can't find a 440, or don't want to go that crazy, a good ol' 318 could be had easily and would still seem pretty darn nice because the power to weight ratio would still be impressive.

While you're comparison makes sense, and is even appropriate, I must agree: don't compare them like that. It's just not right.
