350z if you can handle a 2 seater. I had an RX-8 for a short time. While that thing did corner like it was on rails, it felt kind of slow. VERY un-rebliable. Rotories are just bad news. Check out the boards and even they will admit. Browse the boards and see what people are saying for themselves about each car.
350Z FTW, the RX8 has no torque what so ever,I saw somewhere that it had like 125ft.lbs. of torque at the wheels. Thats why it felt slow. The 350Z is a far better car IMHO. And like Rabbit said, rotories are just bad news, although i'm not sure how well the renesis engine in the RX8 is, might want to check out some consumer reports on them.

The RX8 only 'consumes oil' because it's used in the lubrication process. Nothing wrong with a rotary, especially the Renesis now that they've got most of the kinks worked out.

Even with the Renesis: "Low Coolant" light should be named "Replace Engine." Torque is lack lustre, Year round driveablility is marginal at best.
350Z if you can afford one. The Suspension needs only a little work to be excellent, the engine is very much in favour with tuners right now, and it's got more HP, Torque, and a better chassis IMHO. Plus... they're going to cost a LOT less to tune, and Spare parts aren't an issue.

350Z for the win. More reliable, better torque... Better looking, too.

I am in love with that car. For the size of the engine, it moves. And can it handle!!!! Talk about engineering.
They do require more of a careful eye: keep oil in check, as it naturally consumes it, not burns it.

If you get an rx-8 get a manual. Even if you can't drive a manual GET IT! The hp and the torque decreses if you get a automatic. Plus, I think the rx-8 looks alot better than the 350z..
Rx-8 HP/Torque Specs:
Manual : 232hp @ 8,500rpm; 159 lb/ft @ 5,500rpm 9,000rpm redline
Automatic : 212hp @ 7,500rpm; 159 lb/ft @ 5,500rpm 7,500rpm redline
350z: HP/Torque Specs:
Manual : 306hp @ 6,800rpm; 268 lb/ft @ 4,800rpm
Automatic : 306hp @ 6,800rpm; 268 lb/ft @ 4,800rpm
Performance:
Based on 2003 350Z (which has 287hp and 274 lb/ft)
R&T 350z
0 - 60 : 5.6 seconds
1/4 mile : 14.3 seconds @ 100.2mph
Based on 2004 RX-8 (which has 250hp and 159 lb/ft)
R&T RX-8
0 - 60 : 4.5 seconds
1/4 mile : 14.5 seconds @ 95.6mph

g35 coupe? solves the seating problem
My father had a 350z for a few years and both him and I loved it. Just became very impractical. Absolute blast to drive though. The dealer i work for deals with Mazda and we get a few in once in a while for some problems. Fun cars too. Just not enough power. I love in interior of the RX-8.

I personally like the looks of the 350z better. However, you bring up a very novel idea. Someone should try it. It wouldn't be the first time someone put a better engine in an RX body. Anybody remember the big write up a few years ago about the RX-7 with the 2JZ engine?
