Toyota must have run a @!#$load of full page ads this year to pull that one off.

Well, I don't believe Civic was an option for this year (regardless, it won last year). So that leaves the Camry left, and that is the car.

When do they announce the Truck Of The Year?

How is this biased? The new Camry seems like a no brainer for car of the year.

I'm not saying the Camry is a bad car. I'm saying I haven't trusted Motor Trend's selection for "car of the year" since the 1991 Chevy Caprice. The car was described by most press, MT included, as a "beached whale" or an "upside-down bathtub". In the parts store I worked at, the customers all thought it looked like a cockroach.

Yet somehow this wonder of GM engineering became car of the year. Parts industry magazines at the time were pretty confused about that and some started to look in to it. Funny thing they found was that GM in general, and Chevrolet in particular, had run an extremely large number of full page and multiple page ad spreads in Motor Trend in the year preceding the Caprice's redesign. When asked individually, NONE of the MT editors liked the Caprice over the other selections for that year. MT editors are the ones who select COTY, so if none of them liked it, how did it happen?

If an eBay resistor-chip seller were to buy big ad space in SCC, they could get a glowing review saying their chip makes like 50HP. SCC just isn't the first magazine to turn in to an advertiser's rag.

Motor Trend has no credibility in my book.... in 2004 they named The VW Toureg SUV of the year.... now working for VW I know whats up with them, 04 was the first year for them plus they foreced them out 6 monthes early, they were nothing but problems, we were seeling engine blocks made of pourous metal so while the coolant and oil would mix it would literelly swet fluid out the block, you would car come in for an oil change and they would be for for 4-5 hours on end because of multiple recalls, no multiple 1-2 multiple, it was lik 6-7 recalls per truck. We lemon lawed more then our far whare of 04's, it go to the point they were offering take back 04 Touregs and swap them for 05's once all the problems were fixed. Horrible horrible cars, anytime someone trades in an 04 we low ball the @!#$ out of them and it goes to auction............ yet that was the SUV of the year

suprised? I'm not sure why...

I've driven the Camary..and I can see why it is COY...they actually did a nice job this time around...

I've driven the Aura too..though I'd rather have seen it win...(it handles better)...

I don't think you'll see a domestic win for a long time...

I like the Camry and think it deserves top honors. Truth is, I've been a Camry for quite a while (I ride in one constantly) and I love the redesign of the Camry. The only opinion that I really trust for cars is MotorWeek (PBS) because they seem to offer a new neutral POV on every car they review, pointing out the weakness and strengths of each car, even if the car they are reviewing isn't the top of their list, such as the review they did on the most fuel efficient subcompacts.

I don't put too much stock into MotorTrend, but do see how they came to their conclusion as choosing the Camry for Car of the Year.

i dunno 2005 was the 300C and almost every year previous to that was a domestic car... i wouldn't be surprised if a domestic gets it next year...

Says a guy driving a Ion. (?)

Also... .
1997 Chevrolet Malibu: It was GM's first attempt to really nail the Accord & Camry and it did a hell of a job too. Was also in the top ten sellers for a couple of years.

1993 Ford Probe GT: For its time it was not bad, worthy of COTY? I dunno.

1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LTZ: For its time, the design was futuristic and a giant step forward to the "Box chevys." Hey cops loved them for a reason.

1990 Lincoln Town Car: Agreed... POS

1981 Chrysler K Cars, Dodge Aries / Plymouth Reliant: Call it what you want, it was these and the Caravan what saved DCX.

1980 Chevrolet Citation: Mother had one since new with the 2.8L V6 & 4-speed manual and traded it in 1992 for a Saturn and it was still running.

1971 Chevrolet Vega: Father had a 1976 with the "Durabuilt" I-4 since new. That car was bulletproof and it was still running when he sold it in 1995.
