I doubt anybody on the site has experience with this, but I can't find anything searching on-line. I'm looking for a way to register a skyline in the united states... if it is already in the united states and has no conversion. Obviously it would need the conversion, but motorex doesn't do conversions to cars that they don't buy themselves and import.
I was thinking I could call it "custom" and put some wrecked 240sx vins on it... but that's so illegal it hurts my head....
Any thoughts?

That sucks the big hard one. They don't do VR4's, do they? Because I still haven't figured out if my plan to bring it to Canada and then into the States would actually be legal. And I'm not sure if it would still have to go through all the testing and crap the Skylines do since the VR4 was actually sold in the US. Not to thread jack but Motorex was the largest importer so I wanted to ask.
Somehow I knew someone was going to ask that. The Galant. I despise the GTO's very existence. It's just a thing I have. I don't like them, never have. I had my own thread about this but I read this one and it got me to thinking again because I've yet to find a way to get the car into the States without going through an importer. Here's where I'm lost. The Skyline was never offered in the US, so there's an arse load of hoops to jump through to get one legalized. A lot of cars have that issue. The early EVO and WRX models, the Chaser, Celsior, none of those cars had US counterparts. Period. But here's a kick. The Sylvia was sold in the US as the 240SX. Yet to import a Sylvia it too has to go through a bunch of crap to be legal because the Sylvia was sold with the SR20 in Japan where the 240 SX was only sold with the KA24. But the thing I don't understand is that unlike those vehicles, the GVR4 was only offered with one engine, whether it was in the States, Japan, UK, Australia, wherever, it was always sold with the 4G63. So I can't figure out the big deal. Some say emissoions but Japan's emissions standards are not much more lax than ours, they may be even more strict.
did they make a non-ugly galant vr4 that i don't know about? cuz the only one they sold in the US was so hideous i couldn't even look at it much less drive it.... and i mean... I drive a beetle lol...

Scarab, don't take offense to this but I could care less if you think the GVR4 is ugly or not. It's what I like. Cars are kind of like women. Some people want the dead sexy stripper type that can stop traffic with a wink, even if she's worthless when the lights go out. I like that too, but for me, the Galant VR4 is the girl that isn't a stripper and doesn't give every boy on the block wet dreams, but she still looks okay and is great in bed.

Okay... Back to the topic. I did a littel research a while back and there is one thing that kind of stood out to me. As far as the Skyline is concerned, there are ways around the DOT/Customs/Legal issues. First, somehow a dealer can bring the car over and put dealer tags on it and drive it legally as a demo vehicle. But just like a new car that's for a limited time and after that the car has to go through the red tape or it can't be driven on public roads. Second, the car can be brought over in pieces, assembled, and registered as a kit car. I'm not familiar with all the specifics on that one either but I know it's been done with various cars. Still, it's not the cheapest route and putting together a dismantled Skyline is gonna be a great big pain in the balls. The other is the simplest. It can be imported and designated as a racecar that will never be driven on public roads. But you have to prove your intent somehow, and I honestly don't know how you'd pull that one off.
this may be a little off topic, but in my current readings the guy from Motorex was arrested and sent to jail, he had soemone in Japan stealing skylines and importing them illegaly for him. Well it came back to bite him in the ass, and now the gov't is finding ALL of the skylines that he sold, and taking them back to Japan to their rightful owners. I iwll find the link and post that up.

Okay, okay, point taken. Cut me a little slack. I forgot that the GTO also had the VR4 designation in Japan. It's not like I said I want to import a Mitsubishi.

I just don't like them. I never have. I don't like the way they look, I don't like the fact they're so damn expensive, or at least were, I just think for what you got you could have gotten more. I would admit that "despise" was a little harsh. I just can't bring myself to like them, just like others feel the same way about the Galant.

So does that mean the US is only banning those particular Skylines? What about those brought in by other importers? Motorex wasn't the exclusive importer, just the most recognized. If other importers were legit and their cars were sold legally, I see no reason why they should be banned, regardless of the R3* designation.
^^ i agree with you there, but i think once police find stuff like this, they just dig deeper to find more. and then look at ALL the other importers and then raise soem flags at everyone, i would be scared for awhile is all im saying.
I wonder if they re-imburse the people that bought them here in the states?? i doubt it

the PROBLEM here is no one bothered to safety test the other vehicles. no one crashtested it and produced results to make them legal here. it doesn't matter how they're imported and sold...it matters how they're modified to pass OUR crash test/safety specs. that jackass who ran motorex into the ground only crashtested the R33(i think that's the one...it's been awhile since i made the thread), and tried to claim the others matched it. he lied, and now no others are permitted in.

Ok so maybe i used the wrong example. My point was that the VR4 was two different cars, and you didnt mention which one you wanted.
I understand that you dont like them, lots of people dont, but when you said you depsised them i was like huh?? did one of them rape his sister or something. lol

Hey, your company imports cars from Japan, right? This should be something you're familiar with. What exactly IS the big deal here? Skyline, GVR4, Sylvia, Toyota Cavalier, whatever. I mean, I noticed that the Toyota Cavaliers sell for a pretty penny, just like the Skylines do. The prices are way up there compared to the actual cost of the car. What's all this cost covering? Especially on the Cavalier. It's the same car as it is here, mechanically speaking, so why do they have to go through all the red tape?
